    1. How the learning of Christian religious education in secondary schools promotes the goal of national development.
      • Christian religious education encourages the learner to have a positive attitude towards work/hard work is encouraged/laziness is discouraged.
      • Learning Christian religious education helps the learner to acquire virtues/moral values which promotes economic development.
      • Christian religious education discourages vices which hinder national development.
      • Learners are equipped with knowledge/skills which led to career development/employment.
      • Learners are taught their duties /responsibilities as human beings/the need to develop the environment/Nation.
      • Leaners are taught the need to use their talents for the development of self/others /nation.
      • Christian religious education stresses the importance of peace/love/unity which contributes to a favorable working environment.
      • Learners are taught to appreciate their culture and that of others to promote national
    2. The second creation story (Gen 2:4-23)
      • The creation of heaven and earth is assumed to have taken place.
      • God created man out of the dust of the earth and breath “the breath of life” into his Nostrils.
      • He planted the ground of the garden in Eden.
      • Out of the ground of the garden God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food.
      • He also planted a tree of knowledge of good and evil in the midst of the garden.
      • He made four rivers to water garden.
      • God took the man he had created and put him in Garden of Eden.
      • God commanded man to eat of every tree of the garden but not of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
      • God said it is not good for man to man to stay alone, he will make a helper fit for him then he formed the beast (animal) and bird of the air.
      • God commanded man to give names to the animals and the birds he had created.
      • But there was no helper fit for man, therefore God caused a deep sleep to fall on man.
      • While he was a sleep, he took one of his ribs and closed it up its place with flesh.
      • He took the ribs he had removed and made a woman and brought to man.
    3. reasons why there are two creation alleged.
      • Oral tradition(information was passed orally)
      • The accounts were written by different authors.
      • They were written at different times.
      • The information was from different sources
      • The different places of compilation.

    1. How the Israelites broke the covenant they made with God at mount Sinai/Exodus 32:1-30.
      • Moses had gone up the mountain to seek God’s guidance/instructions.
      • Aaron had been left in charge of the people.
      • Moses delayed in returning/the people became impatient.
      • Israelites asked Aaron to make them a god that would lead them.
      • Aaron yielded to the demands of the Israelites/made them a golden calf to worship.
      • Aaron built an alter to the foot of the mountain.
      • God was annoyed with them and wanted to punish them.
      • Moses pleaded with God to forgive them and God changed his mind.
      • When Moses returned, he become angry and threw the store tablets down breaking it.
      • He then burnt the Golden calf and ground it into powder.
      • He mixed it with water and made the Israelites to drink the content.
      • Moses ordered for the killing of those who worshipped the golden calf.
      • About three thousand people were killed.
    2. Identify seven ways in which God demonstrated his love for the Israelites during the Exodus.
      • God made a passage /way in the red sea for the Israelites to cross.
      • He provided them with water/purified the bitter water for them.
      • He provided them with food/manna/squalls/break.
      • God gave them the Ten Commandments to guide them.
      • God defeated their enemies/Amalekites.
      • He provided them with a cloud to lead them during the day/pillar of fire at night.
      • God dwelt among the Israelites through the Ark of the Covenant.
      • God guided and protected the Israelites through a pillar of fire during the night and a pillar of cloud during the day.
    3. Six lessons Christians learn from the incident in which the Israelites broke the covenant at Mt.Sinai.
      • Christians acknowledge that God is more powerful than the other gods/idols.
      • Christians should be patient.
      • Christians should be merciful/show mercy to others/leaders showed take their roles seriously/should be responsible.
      • Christian learn that disobedience can result into suffering/punishment.
      • They learnt that they should worship God alone/Christians should confidence evil.
      • They should exercise self-control.
      • Christian should repent/ask for forgiveness/forgive others.

    1. State six reasons for kinship in Israel.
      • Samuel’s son, Joel and abijah were corrupt and took bribes.
      • They wanted a warrior King to led them to war and bring victory.
      • The Israelites wanted a king like the other nations around them who had kings.
      • The Israelites wanted a stable political government ruled by law and order.
      • They wanted a steady political government complete with law and order.
      • They wanted a stable hereditary leadership.
      • Samuel was old.
      • They had forgotten that God /Yahweh /was their unseen king.
    2. Explain the significance of David as an ancestor of Jesus to Christians today.
      • The promises that God made to David pointed to the mission of Jesus in the world to save sinners.
      • Through Jesus a descendant of David, Christians are blessed/protected/have peace.
      • Through David, Jesus came to establish a spiritual kingdom/the church David recognized the divinity of Jesus as lord/savior who Christians also recognize as lord /savior.
      • David an ancestor of Jesus established proper worship of God in Israel which has been emulated by Christian.
      • David the ancestor of Jesus made preparations to build a temple for God which has been realized in the late of Jesus.

    3. State six lessons Christians learn from the failures of King Saul.
      • Christians need to be patient for the fulfillment of Gods promises.
      • They should be obedient and have faith in God.
      • Political leaders need to listen to the advices from church leaders.
      • They should be more accommodative to people who hold different views and ideas from their own.
      • Should be sincere in their worship of God.
      • They should have in faith in God/trust in the saving power of God alone.
      • They should respect people anointed to do the will of God /church leaders.
      • Should not be greedy/selfish.
      • Should be responsible/true to their duties. (6 x 1 = 6mks)

    1. Outline seven characteristics of true prophets in the Old testaments
      • Prophets were called by God.
      • They received revelation from God through dreams/visions/direct command/familiar objects.
      • They were obedient.
      • They faced opposition/rejection from the people because of their uncompromising attitude.
      • They commanded God’s message to the people.
      • The prophets spoke with authority/were fearless.
      • They acknowledged one God who was universal/monotheism.
      • They understood the nature of the prophesies.
      • They preached about God’s judgment for sin/hope for restoration.
      • Their prophesies were fulfilled.
      • They did not prophesy for material gains.
      • They lead holy lives. (First 7 x 1 = 7mks)
    2. State seven ways in which the rich oppressed the poor during the time of prophet Amos.(7mks)
      • The rich people’s garment in pledge.
      • The poor were robbed of their food/gains/belongings.
      • Merchants overcharged the poor when selling them anything.
      • The poor were sold for a piece of silver/pair of shoes as they were considered useless.
      • The goods sold to the poor were unfit for human use/consumption /expired.
      • The poor were cheated in business deals as the rich used faulty scales/measures.
      • The poor were sold into slavery when they were unable to pay their debts to the rich.
      • The poor were denied justice in the law courts because they could not bribe the judges.
      • The cases taken to the courts by the poor were thrown out /not listened to.

    3. Give reasons why Christians find it difficult to help the needy in society today. (6mks)
      • There are too many needy cases.
      • Tribal/ethics feelings may hinder one from giving assistance to the needy.
      • Political learning/affiliations influence Christians against helping those who do not belong to their camp.
      • Lack of what to share/inadequacy.
      • Indifferences of some Christians to the light of the needy.
      • Denominational differences where some Christians are not ready to share with those who do not belong to their group.
      • Poor communication/infrastructure in some parts of the country that make impossible to reach the needy.
      • It is difficult to identify the genuine needy cases.
      • Misappropriation of resources meant for assisting the needy discourages Christians from contributing.

    1. Describe the political background to Nehemiah. (6mks)
      • The kingdom of Judah had been taken over by Babylon.
      • The Babylonians had destroyed the walls of the city/the temple/Jerusalem.
      • The king/royal court officials/able people were deported/exiled to Babylon.
      • Persia conquered Babylon/Jews came under the control of Persians.
      • The Persians kings ruled the subjects through governors.
      • The conquered people were to pay tribute/taxes to Persia.
      • The Persian kings/Cyrus allowed the Jews to return to Judah in three stages.
      • Nehemiah led the third group of Jews back to Judah.
      • The Jews in exile returned to Judah in 3 stages.

    2. Explain the circumstances that led the Israelites be taken to exile in Babylon during the time of prophet Jeremiah.
      • The Israelite had forsaken the covenant way of life.
      • They had forsaken the religion of their fore fathers/worshiped idols.
      • Israelites had persecuted/rejected the prophets of Yahweh.
      • They ignored the message of the true prophets.
      • Their rulers were weak/did nothing to return the Israelites to the covenant way of life.
      • Nebuchadnezzar had defeated the Egyptians/made it easy for his army to match to the North.
      • Their king surrendered leading to their deportation to Babylon as exiles.
      • There were intermarriage with foreigners.
      • There were false prophets/priests who spoke lies.
      • The Israelites did not repent their sins as warned by prophet Jeremiah.

    3. Identify five ways in which the government of Kenya supports church leaders in their work.(5mks)
      • The government gives financial/material assistance for development.
      • The government supports church-sponsored institutions.
      • By setting land aside for construction of church facilities.
      • The government allows hosting church workshops/seminars/conferences.
      • By including CRE in the curriculum.
      • By employing some of them as chaplains in educations institutions and in the armed forces/collection of facilities.
      • Organizing national prayer days.
      • Supporting leaders in conducting their charitable service.
      • Through the development of the infrastructure.
      • The government has granted permission to the church to operate electronic /media.
      • The government recognizes the church calendar/church days.

    1. Give reasons why pregnancy before marriage is rare in traditional African communities.
      • The youth are told the consequences of irresponsible sexual behavior.
      • In traditional African communities free mixing of boys and girls is restricted.
      • Girls and boys are taught to respect each other.
      • During social occasions young people are supervised to prevent misbehavior.
      • There is severe punishment if a girl became pregnant/a man impregnates a girl before marriage.
      • There are taboos on sexual relationship.
      • Early marriages are encouraged after initiation.
      • Virginity is highly valued/rewarded at marriage.
      • The parents are held responsible for children’s misconduct.
    2. State the importance of bride wealth in the traditional African communities.
      • Bride wealth is given as a sign of commitment by the groom.
      • It is a way of thanking / appreciating the bride’s family for taking good care of the girl.
      • Bride wealth acts as an out ward seal of the marriage/cements marriage.
      • It is a form of compensation to the bride’s parent/family for the loss of the girl’s services.
      • Giving bride wealth is the evidence of the grooms’ ability to take care of the wife/family.
      • Bride wealth initiates a long-lasting friendship between the two families.
    3. Explain the social –cultural changes that have taken place in traditional African communities in Kenya today.
      • The mode of dressing has charged.
      • There is introduction of new forms of worship/Christians /Islam.
      • Ancestors are no longer considered part of the family/not involved in the activities of the community.
      • There is individual ownership of land rather that communal ownership.
      • Some rites of passage are no longer carried out/have been dropped.
      • Removals of teeth /female circumcision/tattooing/ear looping are not there.
      • People have migrated to urban centres/ free inter-mingling of people weakened family /clan ties.
      • People can plan for the number of children to have/ introduction of modern contraceptives.
      • Home of the aged have emerged new diet has been introduce/modern food.
      • New forms of government have emerged replacing the roles of elders/specialists.
      • Modern forms of technology /infrastructure have transformed modern life.
      • Introduction of formal education.
