  1.                    
    1. Describe the annunciation of the birth of John the Baptist according to Luke 1:8-20 (8 marks)
      • While he was serving as priest before God. When his division was on duty, according to the custom of the priesthood, burning incense.
      • The whole multitude was standing outside. Praying, when the angel of the Lord appeared to Zachariah and stood by the right side of the altar.
      • Zachariah was troubled when he saw the angel/filled with fear.
      • The angel told Zachariah not to be afraid for his prayer had been heard.
      • The angel told Zachariah that his wife Elizabeth would bear him a son and he would be called John.
      • The angel said that many will rejoice at the birth of the baby.
      • The angel informed Zachariah of the qualities of the son / the baby would be great before the Lord and he shall drink no wine /strong drink and would be filled with the Holy Spirit.
      • Zachariah did not believe the message of the angel because he and his wife were advanced in age.
      • The angel revealed his identity as Gabriel who had been sent by God to bring the message.
      • Because of his disbelief, the angel told Zachariah that he would remain dumb until the time the baby would be born.
      • The people who were waiting outside wondered why Zachariah had delayed in the temple and when he came out and could not speak, they perceived that he had seen a vision.

    2. Outline six activities that took place when Jesus was born. (6 marks)
      • Mary his mother wrapped him in swaddling clothes.
      • She laid him in a manger.
      • Angel of The Lord appeared.
      • A multitude of angels appeared singing and praising God.
      • The shepherds hurried to see the baby.
      • The shepherds spread the news to many people.
      • The shepherds sang /praised God after they had seen the baby Jesus.
      • The shepherds returned.
        (The first six points = 6 marks)
    3. How do Christians express their joy for the birth of Jesus Christ? (6 marks)
      • They sing / listen to Christian carols/songs.
      • They attend Christmas worship /service /mass.
      • They partake the Holy Communion /Eucharist.
      • They exchange gifts/cards/messages of good will.
      • They visit friends/relatives.
      • They decorate their homes /churches.
      • They buy/wear new clothes.
      • They prepare special dishes /drinks.
      • They rest from normal duties.
      • They hold Christmas drama /concerts.
      • They are watch movies /films on the birth of Jesus.
      • They read Christmas stories /the Bible.
      • They help the needy /acts of charity.
      • They repent /rededicate themselves to God.

    1. Relate the healing of a maw with an evil spirit in Luke 4:31-37. (7 marks)
      • Jesus went to Capernaum in Galilee and taught people on the Sabbath.
      • All the people were amazed at the way he taught with authority.
      • There was a man in the synagogue with an evil spirit.
      • The man screamed out with a loud voice.
      • The evil spirit made the man confess that Jesus was God's holy messenger.
      • Jesus ordered the spirit to be quiet and come out of the man.
      • The demon threw the man in front of them and went out of the man without hurting the man.
      • The people were surprised.
      • They asked what kind of man Jesus was even to command evil spirits out of the man.
      • The report about Jesus spread everywhere in the region.
        (Any 7X1 = 7marks)
    2. Give four reasons why Jesus faced opposition from the Pharisees in Galilee. Luke 5:12-6:11 (8 marks)
      • He claimed to have the power to forgive sins which was reserved for God alone.
      • His association with tax collectors and sinners - he befriended them and accepted their invitations to their houses.
      • Jesus failure to observe the law on fasting - his disciples did not fast like those of John the Baptist.
      • Jesus' attitude towards the Sabbath, he taught that works of necessity could be allowed on the Sabbath.
      • The popularity of Jesus - the crowds came to hear him and this brought conflict with the Jewish religious leaders. √He healed a man with leprosy which was against the Jewish law.
      • Jesus challenged them to move from traditional order to the new one which he had brought.
      • Jesus made it clear to them that he had not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance /He condemned them.
        (The first four points explained 4X2 = 8 marks)
    3. What lessons can Christians learn about the nature of Jesus from the healing of a man with an evil spirit at Capernaum? (5 marks)
      • Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath.
      • Jesus is a good teacher.
      • Jesus is human - he had compassion.
      • Jesus had compassion over people.
      • Jesus is courageous.
      • Jesus is the Son of God.
      • Jesus had power over evil spirits.
      • Jesus is Holy.
      • Jesus came to establish the Kingdom of God. (Any 5x1=5marks)

    1. Describe the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. (8 marks)
      • Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
      • He sent two of His disciples to go ahead and get him a young donkey which had never been ridden.
      • They were to untie it and bring it to him.
      • If anyone asked them why they were untying it, they were untying it; they were to say "The Lord has need of it."
      • They went and found it as he had told them.
      • As they were untying it, the owner asked them why they were untying it and they replied that the Lord has need of it.
      • They brought it to Jesus and threw garments on it and set Jesus on it.
      • As Jesus rode along, they spread their garments on the road.
      • As they approached the Mt. Olives, the crowd began rejoicing and praising God with a loud voice saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord, peace in Heaven and glory to the highest."
      • Some Pharisees asked Jesus to rebuke the disciples for rejoicing.
      • Jesus answered them that if they remained silent, the very stones would cry.

    2. Identify accusations that were made against Jesus during his trial. Luke 22:66-71, 23:1-23 (5 marks)
      • He claimed to be the Messiah/So6 of God.
      • He was accused of inciting people with his teaching.
      • He was accused of opposing the payment of taxes to Caesar.
      • He was accused that he had made himself the King of Jews against the Roman authority.
      • That he had stirred up the people to revolt.
      • He was accused of equating himself to God/Blasphemy.

    3. How important is the death of Jesus to Christians today? (7 marks)
      • Through the death of Jesus, Christians are forgiven their sins.
      • It demonstrates God's love for human beings.
      • Through it, Christians are able to commit themselves to the will of God.
      • It enables Christians to face death with courage.
      • Through his death, salvation is availed to all.
      • Christians are assured of eternal /everlasting life.
      • It reconciled human beings with God.
      • Christians learn the virtues of perseverance and humility.
      • It affirms that Jesus is the son of God /Messiah.

    1. Explain what the teaching of Jesus about the vine and the branches in John 15:1-10 reveal about the unity of believers. (7 marks)
      • God is the vine dresser /Jesus is the true vine.
      • The followers of Jesus, Christians are the branches.
      • Christians are related to God through Jesus.
      • Unfaithful Christians are the unfruitful branches which are cut and destroyed.
      • Christians can only bear fruits /do good things if they remain united in Christ.
      • Through Christ, Christians are joined to one another.
      • Christians should rely on God for all providence.
      • Love is passed on to Christians from God through Christ.
      • Christians should observe God's commandments.
      • The faithful Christians/fruitful branches are pruned so as to produce more fruit.

    2. Describe the events that took place on the day of Pentecost. (7 marks)
      • During the day of Pentecost, the apostles had gathered in one place.
      • The Holy Spirit descended upon them in a mighty rushing wind which filled the house.
      • They saw what looked like tongues of fire which rested on each one of them.
      • The Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit and they started talking in different languages.
      • The Jews who had come from other parts of the world were amazed /wondered what was happening to the apostles.
      • The multitude mocked the disciples of being drunk.
      • Peter defended them/explained the meaning of the event /Peter preached about the ministry of Jesus.
      • Peter told people to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus.
      • Three thousand people repented and were baptized.
        (Any 7 points 7X1 = 7 marks)
    3. Outline the contribution of women in the church in Kenya today. (5 marks)
      • Women engage in preaching the gospel of Christ.
      • They clean /decorate the church.
      • Women take care of children in the church.
      • They contribute money, clothes, food to the less fortunate.
      • They prepare meals for church leaders /visitors and prepare the Holy Communion.
      • They act as ushers in church.
      • They run income generating projects for the church.
      • Women sing in church choir.
      • Women organize seminars and workshops in church and guide and counsel members.
      • They are leaders and also participate in choosing new leaders.
      • Women give tithes and offerings to the church.
      • They pray for the church. (6X1 = 6 marks)

      • It is a good time to assess the work we've done.
      • It brings people together leading to self-growth and fulfillment.
      • Leisure helps individuals to discover their talents.
      • Leisure relaxes the mind since it is a change of activity.
      • Leisure restores lost energy /refreshes the body.
      • Leisure provides time for worship and spiritual renewal.
      • Leisure gives one time to rest.
      • Leisure is time for recreation.
      • Leisure gives one time to attend social occasions.
      • It allows people to visit friends and relatives.

      • Crime - it leads to increase in the rate of crimes committed.
      • Sexual immorality - use of illicit drugs leads to Sexual immorality /contracting sexually transmitted infections /HIV Aids
      • Poverty - overdependence on illicit drugs leads to depletion of resources leading to poverty.
      • Use of illicit drugs leads to damage of vital organs in the body such as the liver.
      • Use of illicit drugs may lead to increase in the number of street families /children.
      • It causes lack of discipline in institutions of learning.
      • Use of illicit drugs is punishable and the offenders may face the law.
      • Loss of employment - use of illicit drugs may lead to employer/employee conflicts which may result to loss of employment.
      • Leads to family disagreements - illicit drug users become irresponsible /irritable and quarrelsome; this may lead to disagreements and family breakups.
      • Use of illicit drugs may lead to murder/deaths.

      • It helps one to discover and perfect talents.
