    3. Clean an aluminum cooking pan (4mks)

    • A sweet dish served at the end of the main meal to dull the appetite .e.g a piece of a cake, sweets etc.
  2. State two symptoms of a two-year –old child suffering from choking. (2mks)
    • Difficulty in breathing/speaking
    • The person looks faint and may be unconscious due to lack of oxygen
    • Signs of distress may be noticed and tears may flow down the cheeks.
    • Skin turns blue or grayish-blue.
  3. Mention two disadvantages of using old blanket pieces for floor mops. (2mks)
    • Less absorbent
    • Leaves fluffs/may fray if not neatened.
    • May be weak hence may not last long

    1. Cleaning a paraffin stove.
      Collection of equipment and material required.
      1. Protect the working surface
      2. Remove the movable parts
      3. Empty the paraffin
      4. Remove the wicks
      5. Dust with a dry duster
      6. Wash using warm soapy water
      7. Remove stains using mild abrasive
      8. Rinse severally using warm water
      9. Dry with a clean dry cloth
      10. Buff to shine
      11. Wash the wicks in hot soapy water
      12. Rinse in warm water
      13. Final rinse in cold water

      • Soak (½) in cold water (½) for a short time
      • Wash in warm soapy water (½) using kneading and squeezing method(1/2)to remove all traces of dirt(1/2)
      • Rinse severally in warm water (½)
      • Rinse in cold water(½)
      • Add fabric conditioner in the final cold rinse (½)
      • Drip dry (½) in the shade(½)
      • Iron using warm iron (½) on the W.S.
      • Air to dry completely(½)
      • Fold (½) and store in a clean dry place. (½)
    3. Clean an aluminum cooking pan (4mks)
      • Rinse/soak in clean water.
      • Clean in warm soapy water using abrasive/steel wool.
      • Clean in the same direction.
      • Rinse in warm water
      • Wipe to dry using non fluffy dish cloth or drip on a rack then dry later.

    1. Using well-labeled diagrams explain how you would prepare an interfaced waistband with an extended facing in readiness for attachment. (10mrks)
      • Cut the waistband on straight grain or according to the pattern. The piece should be twice the width of the waistband plus seam allowance on both sides. The length should be the size of the waist plus an extension for fastening.
      • Cut an interfacing that is equal to the width and length of the waistband, but equal in length.
      • Attach the interfacing onto the WS of the band.
      • The stiffening should cover the seam allowance.
      • With the RS together, tack or baste the waist band and machine stitch both ends.
      • Trim the turnings and cut off diagonally at the pointed ends.
      • Trim and snip where necessary.
      • Turn the waistband onto the RS and press along the fold line.
      • Complete the skirt /trouser seams and opening

      • It prevent diseases; dirt harbors’ germs that cause diseases.
      • Breeding grounds for pests will be destroyed hence the house is free from pests.
      • It provides psychological satisfaction to those living in it.
      • The house is free from stains/dirt and thus comfortable to live in.
      • The house is free from bad odours.
    3. Outline five reasons why it is advisable for women to deliver in the hospital. (5mks)
      • Hospital delivery minimizes before and after delivery complications such as physical and mental damage to the mother and the baby.
      • There is plenty of qualified staff to assist in case of an emergency.
      • Hospitals have facilities for emergency delivery.
      • It provides the best environment as it is clean; visitors are controlled, at the critical stage when both the mother and the baby are likely to be contaminated with other diseases.
      • The mother can have enough rest, and both she and her baby are well-taken care of.
      • The mother feels safer psychologically.
      • Baby will receive immunization immediately.
      • The mother will also be trained on child care and proper hygiene.

    2. Explain five considerations to make when furnishing a sitting room. (5mks)
      • The existing décor
      • The size of the room and effect desired.
      • The likes and dislikes of the occupants.
      • Person using the room-the age of the person should be considered .if the person has any disability it will affect the type of furniture in the room.
      • The family’s way of life- if the family entertains a lot they may require certain types of furniture e.g larger and more chairs.
    3. State five precautions to take when caring for the sick to avoid the spread of infection. (5mks)
      • Person minding the sick should wear clean protective clothing.
      • Personal effects of the sick should be soaked in disinfected water before they are washed.
      • Any repairs done should be after laundry.
      • Washed clothes should be dried outdoor/ and ironed to kill germs.
      • Feeding equipment should be washed separately and disinfected.
      • Protective clothing of the person minding the sick should be washed and disinfected separately from the other family washing.
      • Person minding the sick should wash hands frequently, with clean disinfected water.
      • Tissue papers better than handkerchiefs if they can be afforded.
      • Handle any blood or body fluid - stained items cautiously as they may be contaminated with germs.
      • Room where the patient is should be well lit and be well ventilated.
      • Ensure that the patient is clean all the time.
      • Keep children away from this room.
      • Keep pets away from this room.
    4. State five qualities of a well made round bottom patch pocket. (5mks)
      • Accurately located and shaped.
      • Stitching should be accurate, even, straight and close to the edge.
      • Reinforced at the mouth to prevent tearing
      • They should be flat and neat.
      • Bottom well trimmed and clipped to avoid bulk.
      • Of correct size
      • The mouth should be wide to allow the hand move in and out freely.
      • The pocket should be deep enough to hold the contents.
