  • This paper consists of THREE sections A, B and C.
  • Answer all the questions in the sections A and B.
  • Answer any TWO questions in section C.
  • All answers should be written in the spaces provided.
  • Candidates should answer the questions in English.

SECTION A 30: MARKS

  1. Assume you have a piece of sawn timber with dimensions as shown below. Describe how a round handle 85cm long would be prepared from the piece of timber and fixed to an axe as shown below. For each operation name operation name the correct hand tool(s) that would be used. 5mks
    • Round up sharp corners using a panga
    • Smooth the round wood using rasp or spoke shave
    • Check if the finished handle would fit and adjust by further smoothening using rasp
    • Fix the handle onto axe firmly hitting with mallet
    • Finally measure length of handle using measuring tape.

    • Ensure the calf is breathing well
    • Clean the mucus and the mother should lick the calf
    • Cut and disinfect the umbirical cord
    • Ensure the calf suckles colostrum
    • Feed the calf with colostrum for the first 4 days
    • Weigh the calf to assess the management level
    • Introduce whole milk afer 5 days
    • Ensure the milk is at the right temperature
    • Feed with the correct amounts of milk
    • Feed at regular intervals
    • Maintain proper hygiene
    • Provide clean water from the 3rd week
    • Introduce solid feesds or concentrates at the 3rd week
    • Spray against external parasites
    • Drench to control internal parasites
    • Vaccinate against prevalent diseases
    • Put the calf outside to busk.
    • Wean at 8-16 weeks
    • Graze the calf in quality pasture
    • Treat when sick
    • Make appropriate identification marks

  1. Describe fish management under the following sub headings

      • Dig out the soil from the floor ensuring upper side of pond is 0.5m deep and lower one 1.5m deep
      • Dig a core or a trench 0.5m wide and lower than the general level of the pond bottom and fill it clay or concrete to prevent seepage

      • Obtain fingerlings from a recognized hatchery in oxygenated water in container

      • Spray the backline from shoulder to tail
      • Spray the side in a zigzag motion to trap and retain the chemical from the backline

      • Hold tail switch on to the ramp and spray it thoroughly to ensure complete wetting
