MARKING SCHEME

  1.      
    1. Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah according to Prophet Jeremiah.
      • He would be called the righteous branch of David.
      • He shall reign wisely.
      • He shall reign in justice and righteousness.
      • He would be betrayed by his close associates.
      • He will be called “the Lord of our righteousness”. 5x1=5mks
    2. Activities that took place when Jesus was left behind at the temple after the Passover celebration.
      • Jesus accompanied his parents to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover.
      • After the festivity Jesus’ parents returned home, but Jesus remained behind.
      • Jesus’ parents began looking for him among their friends and relatives in vain.
      • The parents of Jesus returned to Jerusalem and found him in the temple after three days of searching.
      • Jesus was in the company of teachers of the law/listening to them and asking them questions/found him in the temple.
      •  His mother Mary asked him why he had caused them such trouble.
      • Jesus answered, “did you not know that I must be in my father’s house?”
      • Jesus returned to Nazareth with his parents/obeyed his parents and gained wisdom from God. 8x1=8mks

      • Children engage in preaching the gospel/evangelism.

    1. Jesus’ teachings on how human beings should relate to one another from the Sermon on the plain (Lk 6:27-38)
      • Human beings should love enemies.
      • They should do good to those who hate them.
      • They should bless those who curse them
      • They should pray for those who mistreat them
      • They should help those in need
      • They should lend without expecting anything in return.
      • They should show mercy to others
      • They should not judge/condemn others
      • Human being should forgive one another/not revenge.
      • They should be generous
      • They should do unto others what they expect done to them. ( 7 x 1 = 7mks)
    2. Describe the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. 6mks
      • The devil told Jesus “ To turn stones into bread”, If indeed he was the son of God.
      • Jesus refused to use his divine powers instead he told the devil, it’s written, Man does not live by bread alone. but that man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the lord.
      • The devil took Him to a high mountain showed him all the kingdom of the world.
      • He promised to give this kingdom with all its wealth if only Jesus would bow down & worship him. He refused by quoting “ You shall fear the lord your God, you shall serve him, and swear by his name only.
      • The devil took Jesus to the roof top and told him to jump down if he was the son of God. He challenged Jesus by quoting from the book of psalm which promised protection to his son against any form of danger. Jesus refused by quoting “ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test. He told him fly from me Satan and
      • Satan left him and waiting at later time for more temptation.
    3. What lessons do Christians learn from the temptations of Jesus. ( 7mks)
      • They should be knowledgeable in scriptures/ biblical verses.
      • They should resist the devil.
      • They should have faith in God/ no temptation beyond their limit.
      • They should worship God alone.
      • They should not put God to test.
      • They should desire to have the Holy Spirit.
      • They should not misuse the power of the Holy Spirit.
      • They should be content with what they have.

    1. Describe the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem Lk. 19: 28 – 40
      • Jesus arrival in Bethany.
      • He send 2 disciplines to bring him a colt .
      • Told them to tell the owner of the colt that the Lord needed it.
      • They brought the colt to Jesus.
      • Jesus sat on it.
      • People spread them garments on the road for the colt to walk on.
      • People rejoiced and praised God / Blessed in the king who come in the name to the Lord.
      • Pharisees were not happy / told Jesus to rebuke the people.
      • Jesus told them if the people keep quiet , the stones will praise him.
      • When he drew near Jerusalem he wept. Foresaw the destruction of Jerusalem.
      • Jesus went into the temple
      • He drove out merchants / said the temple’s God’s house of prayer. 1 x 8 = 8 mks
    2. Identify Jesus teachings on the way to salvation Lk. 15 – 19
      • Way to salvation in through humility and obedience to his teachings
      • To enter Gods kingdom one need Be like little children.
      • Way to salvation in shown helping the poor. Salvation comes through suffering and death of Jesus.
      • Salvation comes through confession and repentance of their sins.
      • Salvation come through obedience to the commands / love of God.
      • Way to salvation in through self denial / the story of the rich man. 1 x 7 = 7mk
    3. Outline the role played by women in evangelization.
      • Women Pray / intercede for the church.
      • Contributes money / material support to support the church.
      • Women perform work of charity / visiting the needy / sick.
      • Women lead the church in praise and worship.
      • Some women are preachers / pastors / teachers.

    1. Teachings of Jesus on the role of the Holy spirit
      • The Holy Spirit comforts the believers.
      • He teaches the believers all things
      • He brings into remembrance all that Jesus taught the disciples.
      • He convicts the world of sins and lead them to righteousness and judgment.
      • He guides all the believers in the erath.
      • To enable the believers to be witness of Jesus in the world.
      • To counsel, advice and guide God’s people
      • He reveals to God’s people what is yet to come in future.
      • To enable believers to know the perfect will of God. (8x1=8marks)
    2. Criteria for discerning the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
      • Those with the holy spirit confess that Jesus is Lord.
      • They worship the true God.
      • Service to all Christians in church without discrimination.
      • They bear fruits and are known by their works.
      • Do not curse jesus
      • A true prophet is known by his way of life
      • A false prophet do not demand for payment
      • Speaks the truth They avoid desire of flesh.

    3. How the church in Kenya can help to bring about unity in the country.
      • Advocating for peaceful co-existence among Kenyans.
      • Fighting corruption, discrimination tribalism and all form of favourism.
      • Acting as a voice of reason among the ruling political class demanding their unity as a government.
      • Assisting the less fortunate in society
      • Condemning and reporting those who bring disharmony in society.
      • Developing joint rallies, prayer and reconciliatory meetings together.
      • Forgiving one another to avoid disunity

      • Watching/reading pornographic materials/negative media.

      • In order to uplift human dignity/human rights.
      • To create peace/harmony/unity in society.
      • To provide national development

    1. Christian teachings on marriage:
      • Marriage should be between a man and a woman.
      • Marriage should be monogamous.
      • Husband and wife should be complementary/help one another.
      • The husband should love the wife.
      • Marriage should be faithful to each other.
      • Conjugal rights should be enjoyed in marriage/sex should only be for married couples.
      • The wife should submit to the husband.
      • Husband and wife should respect/cherish each other.
      • Marriage is permanent/it is a commitment/no divorce.
      • Marriage is God’s plan for humble beings/it was instituted by God.
      • The husband and wife should cleave to each other/become one/one flesh.

      • Drugs/alcohol abuse among the youth.

      • The church encourages people to start income generating activities.

      • It teaches the youth about the dignity of manual work/encourage the youth to participate in agriculture/technical fields.
      • It organizes seminars for the youth/unemployment on how to utilize their potentials.
      • It condemns corrupt practices which interfere with the recruitment/economic growth.
      • It encourages its members to pay taxes promptly so that the government can have the resources to employ/pay workers.
      • It trains/sponsors youths on vocational skills.
      • The church tries to be fair when recruiting people for various jobs. (1x6 = 6mks)
