A pattern of a child’s dress is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, instructions and the layout before you begin the test.
Materials provided.
- Pattern pieces
- skirt front
- skirt back
- front yoke
- back yoke
- collar
- front neck facing
- Back neck facing
- Frill
- Plain light cotton fabric 90cm wide by 70cm long
- Sewing cotton thread to match the fabric
- One large envelop
THE TEST.
Using the materials provided, cut out and make up the LEFT HALF of a child’s dress to show the following processes.
- The joining of the front yoke to the front skirt and back yoke to the back skirt using unneatened overlaid seam (ease in the skirts to the yokes)
- The making of the shoulder seam using double stitched seam.
- The making of the side seam using a French seam.
- The joining of the front and back facing and neatening of the free edge.
- The preparation of collar.
- The attachment of the collar
- The preparation of the frill and its attachment using and open seam. Neaten half of the seam only.
- Making a loop for a 1cm button.
Omit hem management
At the end of the examination, firmly sew onto your work, on a single fabric a label bearing your name and admission number. Remove the needle and pins from your work, then fold your work neatly and place it in the envelop provided.
