    1. State SIX reasons why the Bible had to be compiled into its present form by early Christians ( 6 marks)
      • There was need to write an orderly account of Jesus
      • There was need for a text to combine both Old and New Testaments
      • There was rapid expansion of the church
      •  It was intended to counter the rise of false teaching which confused the Christians
      • Christians had awaited for long for the second coming of Jesus Christ which was not forth coming
      • The death of many eye witnesses led to the need to write so as to preserve Jesus’ teachings
      • The writing materials on which the work was recorded was available
      • They had the Holy Spirit which inspired them to write

    2. Outline Seven provisions given to human beings by God in the Genesis stories of creation ( 7 marks )
      • The garden of Eden
      • A helper/ companion/ wife
      • The gift of life/ breath
      •  His love/ perfect happiness
      • Wealth i.e. gold from rivers

      • In obedience /respect to God’s commands/it’s a duty/responsibility
      • In order to maintain its beauty/aesthetics
      • To preserve/maintain natural habitat for God’s creation/home/promote life
      • It’s the source of food/shelter/medicine
      • In order to preserve it for future generations /sustainability
      • To promote a healthy surrounding /prevent disease/pests/soil erosion/pollution

    1. Identify Six promises given to Abraham by God during the covenant making Gen 15:1-19 ( 6 marks)
      • God would protect him
      • God would reward Abraham
      • Abraham will have a son
      • Abraham will have many descendants as the stars of the sky/heaven
      • His descendants will be slaves in a foreign land for 400 years
      • God will rescue them and punish the nation that will enslave them
      • They would come out with great possessions
      • Abraham will die in a good old age and be buried 6x1=6marks
    2. Explain the nature of God as shown in his promises to Abraham in the covenant making (8 marks)
      • God protects his people/those who believe Him-Promised to protect Abraham
      • God rewards those who believe in Him with good things
      • God blesses people with children-Abraham got Isaac
      • God is faithful to his promises-To deliver Israel from bondage
      • God is powerful/mighty
      • God is just-Punished Egyptians
      • God expects obedience-From those He calls
      • God is pleased with those who remain steadfast in Him
      • God wants to renew the broken relationship with human beings -Delivered Israelites later and made covenants with them 4x2=8marks

      • Drought and famine
      • Political asylum
      • War
      • Search for jobs/business opportunities/better paying jobs
      • Displacement by natural calamities-floods, earthquakes
      • Better medical care

    1. Describe ways in which King David demonstrated his faith in God ( 7 marks)
      • David brought the Ark of the covenant to Jerusalem
      • He composed Psalms that have continued to be used in the worship of God
      • He defeated the enemies of Israel making her to worship in a condusive environment
      • He advised others to obey God and keep His commandments
      • He wanted to build a temple for God to house the Ark of the covenant
      • David made Jerusalem the Holy city; where all Israelites gathered to worship God during important religious occasions
      • He listened to advice of God’s Prophets
      • When he sinned he repented and served as an example to other people
      • He thanked God often and called upon Israelites to worship God

    2. Give ways in which King Jeroboam contributed to religious schism between Judah and Israel (7 marks)
      • He brought polytheism religion in Israel by placing two Golden calves at Bethel and Dan
      • He put two centers of worship at Dan and Bethel to stop Israelites from going to Judah and worship in Jerusalem
      • He made Israel to offer sacrifices to Baal-Hadad
      • He built places of worship at Hilltops to emulate other nations
      • He chose his own priests from ordinary families instead of getting them from the family of Levites in Judah
      • He instituted religious festivals or feasts in the months of his choice to counteract the calendar of dates of the same in Judah’
      • He burnt incense at the altar of idols breaking the first commandment

      • Some misuse the pulpit for political gain
      • Some discriminate against the poor and the needy in society

      • Some are proud and arrogant
      • Some impose personal doctrine on the congregation
      • Some mislead other people on certain biblical teachings

    1. Explain Four ways in which prophetic messages were written ( 8 marks )
      • They were not written at once but they were collected over time/organized to different subjects.
      • They were written in different styles e.g. narratives, letters, prayer, sayings.
      • Some were written by prophets themselves following Gods commands.
      • Some prophets dictated their messages to their disciples/scribes e.g. Jeremiah.
      • Some messages were preserved by their disciples who passed them over to other generations.
      • The scribes reorganized the prophets’ teachings according to subject matter.
      • Some were preserved and passed on by their followers through oral traditions.

    2. State the teachings of prophet Amos on the day of the Lord ( 7 marks)
      • Eclipses would occur
      • Darkness all over the land.
      • Earthquake
      • Weeping and mourning
      • Judgment upon the people.
      • Sufferings/tribulations
      • Wearing sack clothes/shaving hair
      • Famine of God’s word.
      • Death/loss of property.
      • People would be taken by surprise.

    3. What is the relevance of prophets to Christians today (5 marks)
      • Christians should pray to God to give them guidance, wisdom and inspiration to be able to handle hardships in their lives
      • Christians learn that God requires a response of faith and obedience from those He calls
      • Christians learn that God is universal and makes moral demands to all people
      • They should be concerned about the welfare of others in society
      • Christians should be ready for opposition and persecution
      • They should pass the message of God without fear or favor
      • Christians should use the gift of prophesy for the sake of God’s kingdom
      • A message found in prophetic books strengthens Christians’ faith
      • As God’s messengers Christians should lead exemplary lives
      • Christians should provide hope for the people in times of suffering
      • Once appointed as God’s prophets Christians understand that they are God’s spokesperson so they should condemn the social, political and economic evils 5x1= 5 marks

    1. Identify Six measures taken by Nehemiah to ensure correct observance of the Sabbath ( 6 marks )
      • He warned the people of God’s wrath if they continued with the abuse of the Sabbath.
      • He reminded the nobles of Judah that God had punished the nation because of their ancestor’s failure to observe the Sabbath.
      • He ordered that doors of the gate of Jerusalem be shut until after the Sabbath.
      • He stationed his personal guards at the gate to prevent traders from entering on the Sabbath.
      • He commanded the Levites to protect the purity of the Sabbath by purifying themselves and guarding the temple gates.
      • He threatened the traders who camped outside the wall on Sabbath day to have them arrested if they did not withdraw/ threatened them with violence
      • He stopped trading activities on the Sabbath 6x1=6marks

      • To dedicate their first born sons, animals and harvest to God
      • They were to supply what was required for regular worship

      • Both were prayerful.

      • Both were compassionate towards the needy.
      • They both boldly condemned injustice in society/courageous.

      • Both cleansed the temple of Jerusalem

      • GOD (Supreme being responsible for the existence and sustenance of human beings and all other beings).
      • DIVINITIES (Are spirits created by God).
      • SPIRITS (Belonging to people who died a long time ago).
      • LIVING DEAD/ ANCESTORS (Act as intermediaries between human beings who are alive and the spirit world).
      • HUMAN BEINGS (Include those who are physically alive and those yet to be born).
      • PLANTS & ANIMALS (They are used by human beings in their natural and religious life as food and sacrifice).
      • NON-LIVING THINGS (Natural and artificial beings e.g. rain, rivers, mountains, rocks and all other lifeless bodies). 7x1=7marks

      • Respect.
      • Loyalty.
      • Endurance and courage.
      • Sharing.
      • Chastity.

    3. State Seven changes that have taken place in regards to property ownership in Traditional African Society (7 marks)
      • Women/ children can now own property
      • Wealth is no longer determined by number of wives/ children
      • Introduction of money economy has reduced value of land
      • Role of elders in sharing property has been eroded
      • Land is individually owned through issuance of title deed
      • People write wills to show/ decide who should inherit their property
      • Property can be owned outside one’s ancestral home
