- Similarities
- In both cases it united an individual with the community
- In both cases there was a ceremony to accompany the rite
- In both cases the rite is performed by religious leaders and specialists
- In both cases the rite is carried out in sacred (holy) places.

- Differences
- Jews did circumcision rite eight days after birth while Africans did it at adolescence
- In ATS it is communal and a large group is circumcised at age while among the Jews it is done to an individual
- It is seasonal among the Africans while among the Jews it is done after the birth of the child
- In some African communities both boys and girls were circumcised while Jews circumcised only boys
- In ATS it symbolized a persons commitment to his customs while among the Jews it was commitment to God.
- In ATS it marked change from childhood to adulthood while it did not to Jews.

- Visions of Amos
- Locusts. Amos saw a swarm of locusts sent by God destroying all the crops. Amos intervened / pleaded with God, and God forgave them.
- Fire. Amos saw fire sent by God consuming all the creation on earth. Amos pleaded again with God and God spared them.
- Plumbline. Amos saw a crooked wall being checked by God. The wall represented the crooked ways of the Israelites
- A basket full of fruits. Amos saw a basket of ripe summer fruits at the end of the fruit harvest. This showed that the Israelites were ripe for punishment.
- God standing by the altar. Amos saw God standing by the altar in the temple ready to destroy the temple and wicked people of Israel.

- Final reforms of Nehemiah Neh 13
- He separated the Israelites from the Amorites, Samaritans and the Moabites who were regarded as foreigners. He did this by putting to an end intermarriages with foreigners.
- He purified and cleansed the temple because Tobaiah had been residing there.
- He reinstated the Levites, priest and other temple workers to their positions and made sure that the people observed the laws of Moses.
- He reformed and restored the observance of the Sabbath law./ He ordered the Gates of Jerusalem to be locked on the eve of every Sabbath day.
- He cleansed and purified priesthood and the office of the Levites by chasing away the grandson of Eliashib the priest.
