    1. Reasons why reading the Bible is important to Christians today.
      • The Bible strengthens the faith of Christians as they read the word of God directly by themselves.
      • Reading the Bible helps in spreading the gospel to different people and communities
      • Reading the Bible helps Christians to compose Christian songs and hymns
      • Reading the Bible helps Christian scholars and authors to write Christian textbooks, pamphlets and magazines.
      • Reading the Bible helps preachers to convert new people who had not believed in Christianity
      • Reading the Bible helps Christians to understand the word of God deeply and properly

    3. Comparison between Traditional African and Jewish Circumcision practices and believes.
      1. Similarities
        • In both cases it united an individual with the community
        • In both cases there was a ceremony to accompany the rite
        • In both cases the rite is performed by religious leaders and specialists
        • In both cases the rite is carried out in sacred (holy) places.
        • Blood was shed to seal the ceremonies in both cases
        • New names were given to initiates in both cases
        • The initiated were given presents in both cases
        • The ceremony was done for identification of the member of the community in both cases
        • It was compulsory to those communities in both cases.
      2. Differences
        • Jews did circumcision rite eight days after birth while Africans did it at adolescence
        • In ATS it is communal and a large group is circumcised at age while among the Jews it is done to an individual
        • It is seasonal among the Africans while among the Jews it is done after the birth of the child
        • In some African communities both boys and girls were circumcised while Jews circumcised only boys
        • In ATS it symbolized a persons commitment to his customs while among the Jews it was commitment to God.
        • In ATS it marked change from childhood to adulthood while it did not to Jews.
        • In ATS the spirits are involved to offer protection while among the Jews it was commended by God (1x4=4mks)

      • God had chosen the Israelites as his people
      • He wanted them to live in the promised land
      • He had heard their suffering, cries & oppression in bondage
      • He wanted to demonstrate to the Israelites that he was the God of their ancestors
      • such as Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
      • He made a promise to Abraham that his descendants would be sojourner’s in a
      • foreign land but would be delivered to freedom (4x2 = 8mks)
    2. Ways in which God showed concern for the Israelites as they traveled in the wilderness.
      • He provided them with able leaders like Moses, Aaron & Joshua
         
      • He enabled them to cross the Red Sea and thus save them from Egyptian chariots
         
      • He provided them with water & manna in the wilderness when they were thirsty & hungry.
         
      • He protected them from the hostile tribes of the desert e.g.  Amalekites

      • The Ten commandments ensure that Christians remain faithful to God our Lord alone.
      • They guide the moral behavior of Christians & ensure that they are faithful to their partners
      • They promote love among Christians
      • They enable Christians to co-exist peacefully
      • They help Christians to develop obedience to everybody around them
      • They promote honesty among Christians
      • They encourage respect for each other’s property
      • They encourage humility & obedience to God.

    1. How David strengthened the faith of his people
      • He brought the Ark of the covenant to Jerusalem which acted as God’s presence among the people
      • He made Jerusalem a religious center of worship
      • David composed hymns that were used for worship
      • He humbled himself before God, hence acting as a role model/worshipped God as an example to others
      • He led people in worship during a dedication ceremony
      • He repented after sinning setting an example for his people
      • David consulted Yahweh’s prophets on spiritual matters          8marks
    2. Factors that made King Solomon to fail
      • Marrying of foreign women who brought idol worship to Israel
      • The building of high places for the worship of idols
      • Over taxation of his subjects making them to rebel
      • He carried out forced labour

      • He participated in the worship of idol gods
      • He was greedy by taking much time to build his palace than Yahweh’s house
      • He sold part of the Israelites land to Tyre

      • They responded to God’s call in faith and obedience.

      • They received God’s revelation in the form of dreams / visions / symbolic actions.
      • They faced opposition / persecution in their work.
      • They acknowledged God as the only true God of all nations / maintained the covenant way.
      • They spoke with authority i.e thus says the Lord.
      • They were courageous and delivered God’s message without fear. Spoke the truth regardless of the situation.

    2. Visions of Amos
      • Locusts. Amos saw a swarm of locusts sent by God destroying all the crops. Amos intervened / pleaded with God, and God forgave them.
      • Fire. Amos saw fire sent by God consuming all the creation on earth. Amos pleaded again with God and God spared them.
      • Plumbline. Amos saw a crooked wall being checked by God. The wall represented the crooked ways of the Israelites
      • A basket full of fruits. Amos saw a basket of ripe summer fruits at the end of the fruit harvest. This showed that the Israelites were ripe for punishment.
      • God standing by the altar. Amos saw God standing by the altar in the temple ready to destroy the temple and wicked people of Israel.

    1. Final reforms of Nehemiah Neh 13
      • He separated the Israelites from the Amorites, Samaritans and the Moabites who were regarded as foreigners. He did this by putting to an end intermarriages with foreigners.
      • He purified and cleansed the temple because Tobaiah had been residing there.
      • He reinstated the Levites, priest and other temple workers to their positions and made sure that the people observed the laws of Moses.
      • He reformed and restored the observance of the Sabbath  law./ He ordered the Gates of Jerusalem to be locked on the eve of every Sabbath day.
      • He cleansed and purified priesthood and the office of the Levites by chasing away the grandson of Eliashib the priest.
