    1. Clean her hull cane lamp.
      • Collect equipment and materials ( ½ ) to use
      • Protect ( ½ )the working surface to avoid stains
      • Dismantle ( ½ )the lamp and remove the movable parts
      • Empty ( ½ ) the paraffin into a dry container
      • Dust ( ½ ) the lamp using a dry fluffy cloth
      • Use a stick to remove soot ( ½ )from the metal chimney vent holes
      • Use warm ( ½ ) soapy ( ½ ) water and a soft abrasive ( ½ ) to clean the lamp starting with a metal chimney
      • Clean the whole lamp taking care that water does not enter the paraffin reservoir
      • Use warm ( ½ ) water and a clean duster to rinse( ½ ) the whole lamp
      • Dry ( ½ ) it with dry non-fluffy material to remove all traces of water and to avoid water marks

      • For comfort: when one is sleeping/sitting pillows and cushions are used to support the baby
      • For protection: Loose chair covers and bedcovers are used to protect expensive upholstered goods
      • For easy maintenance – loose covers are easier and cheaper to launder than dry cleaning upholstery and blankets
      • For privacy: curtains screen the windows during the night and day time hence providing privacy
      • Filtering excessive light: curtains filter and control the amount of light entering a room
      • Warm and reduction of noise: carpets reduce noise and add warmth to a room
      • Improving the appearance of an unattractive
      • Furniture – loose covers can be used to cover ugly upholstery and enhance the room appearance
      • For decoration: if colours are well chosen to be in with the colour scheme of a room the appearance of the room will be enhanced
    2. Explain three disadvantages of open drainage in an area. (6 mks)
      • They pose danger to people and domestic animals as they can in them
      • They can be smelly and unsightly if not constantly cleaned.
      • They cause soil erosion because edges of uncemented drainage continuous to wear out
      • They can be breeding place for mosquitoes
      • They can cause stagnant water/floods which can cause accidents as people and animals can drawn in them.
    3. Mention four reasons why labels are important to a consumer. (4 mks)
      • Manufacture and expiry dates are indicated thus consumer is protected from expired goods
      • Ingredients used are indicated thus/consumers is able to make informed decision
      • Labels give instructions on how to use the products

      • Labels help the consumer to avoid dangers which could result from improper handling of product

    3. Mention five points to consider when looking after a sick person at home. (5 mks)
      • The room should be as comfortable as possible /clean/warm /not noisy
      • The sick person should not be disturbed unless it is absolutely necessary
      • The room should be well ventilated
      • Room should be well lit
      • Observe strict personal hygiene
      • Give a well balanced diet
      • Give a lot of nutritious drinks
      • The number of visitors should be minimized.

    4. State four qualities of a well made in seam pocket. (4 mks)
      • Have firm /strong stitchery
      • The pocket should lie flat to avoid bulkiness
      • The pocket should face the from side of the garment for ease of use
      • Pocket is reinforced at the mouth
      • The pocket grain and that of the garment should match to give good shape for the wearer’s hand to enter it easily
      • The pocket bag should be well neatened to avoid fraying

    2. Explain four factors to consider when choosing a toy for a four year child. (8 mks)
      • Should not have sharp or pointed parts because they can injure the child
      • They should not be two small so as to prevent the child from putting them in the mouth and swallowing
      • Should be made from non-poisonous materials as this is dangerous
      • should be well constructed to avoid dismantling easily
      • should be made of materials that are easy to clean for hygienic purposes
      • should be suitable for the age so as to be relevant to the child
      • Should be attractive in colour and design so as to win the interest of the child.
