A pattern of a child’s dress is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, the question paper and the layout carefully before you begin the test
MATERIALS PROVIDED
- Pattern pieces

- Sleeve binding and ties
- Sleeve opening facing
- Front neck facing
- Back neck facing
- Plain light weight cotton fabric 70cm long by 90cm wide
- Sewing thread to match fabric
- One large envelope
THE TEST
Using the materials provided, cut out and make up the RIGHT HALF of the child’s dress to show the
following:-
- Cutting cut (18 marks)
- Making of the front dart (8 marks)
- Attaching the back yoke to the dress back using overlaid seam. Neaten half of the seam using overcasting stitches. (6 marks)
- Joining of the shoulder seam using fell/double stitched seam. (9 marks)
- Joining the side seam suing the French seam (7 marks)
- Preparing and attaching the sleeve (28 marks)
- Work the gathers on the crown (do not remove)
- Joining the under seam using a French seam
- Working a faced-slit opening on the sleeve
- Attaching the binding and holding it using slip hemming. Hold the tie using even tacking
- Attaching the sleeve onto the garment (do not trim or neaten)
- Attaching the facing of the neckline (8 marks)
- Presentation (6 marks)
