HOME SCIENCE PAPER 2 - KCSE 2019 STAREHE PRE MOCK EXAMINATION (WITH MARKING SCHEME)

A pattern of a baby shirt is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, the question paper and the layout before you begin the test.

1. Materials provided:
   Pattern pieces of the baby shirt:
   • A -Shirt Front
   • B -shirt Back
   • C- sleeve
   • D -pocket
   • E -collar
   • F -back neck facing

2. Plain cotton poplin 91cm wide by50cm.
3. Mercerized sewing cotton thread to match.
4. Embroidery thread to contrast well.

THE TEST:
Using the materials provided, cut out and make up the left half of the baby shirt to show the following:

• The working embroidery stitches on letters A, B on the pocket.
• The preparation and attaching of the pocket.
• The working of the shoulder seam using machine fell seam.
• The working of French seam at the side.
• The preparation of the collar.
• The joining of the front and back facing at the shoulder.
• The neatening of the free edge of the facing.
• The attaching of the collar.
• The preparation of the sleeve using French seam.
• The preparation of the sleeve and neatening half way with loop stitches.
• The hand hemming of the lower edge of the sleeve.
• The working of the top button hole only.
  
  OMIT:
• The management of the lower hem.
• The working of all the other buttonholes.

NB:
At the end of the examination, firmly sew on to your work, on a single fabric, a label bearing your name and index number. Remove the needle and pins from your work. Then fold your work carefully and place it in the envelope provided. Do not put scraps of materials in the envelope.
