    1. Give five ways in which God showed his concern to the Israelites during the Exodus. (5mks)
      • Made a passage/way in the Red sea for the Israelites to cross
      • Provided them with food manna/Quails
      • Provided them with a cloud that led them at night/pillar of fire at night.
      • Defeated enemies/Amalekites
      • Provided them with water/changing bitter water to sweet water for them.
      • Provided them with leaders
      • Drowned the Egyptians chariots into the red sea.
      • Entered into covenant with them.
      • Forgave them when they broke the covenant (5x1=5mks)

    2. Describe the breaking of the covenant at Mt. Sinai (Exodus 32:1-35) (8mks)
      • Moses had gone up the mountain to seek for God’s guidance.
      • Aaron had been left in-charge of the people
      • People became impatient when Moses delayed in returning.
      • Israelites pressurized Aaron to make them a god who would lead them.
      • Aaron yielded to their demands and made the golden calf.
      • Israelites worshipped the golden calf, hence breaking the covenant.
      • God was angry and set to destroy the Israelites
      • Moses interceded on behalf of the people and God relented.
      • When Moses came down from the mountain, he was angry with the people and broke the stone tablets.
      • He gave then a chance to choose who to follow, Yahweh or reject him.
      • Those opposed to God were destroyed
      • God punished them further by sending a disease upon them. (8 x 1 =8mks)

    3. What is the importance of the ten commandments to modern Christians. (7mks)
      • Safeguards Christians against idol worship/promote true worship of God
      • Helps Christians to have right relationship with God/not misuses God’s name.
      • Promote good relationship between parents and their children.
      • Preserve human life
      • Guides Christians on Christian living/safeguard marriages/bring stability in families
      • Protect properties/condemns theft.
      • Teach the need of honesty/moral values
      • Enhance peaceful co-existence (7x1 = 7mks)

      • It was rejection of God as the King and leader.

    2. Describe the contest between prophet Elijah and the prophets of Baal at Mt. Carmel (1st King 18:17-40) (8mks)
      • Prophet Elijah asked Ahab to assemble all the people at mount Carmel
      • The king summoned all the people including the prophets of Baal
      • He suggested that two bulls be brought for each party to sacrifice
      • Challenged them that whichever party will make God to burn will be the true God.
      • Prophets of Baal were given a bull and called upon their god.
      • Elijah mocked them asked them to shout louder to their god
      • They prayed, cut themselves with knives until they bled/baal did not answer.
      • Elijah asked people to come near/repair the altar.
      • He placed sacrifice on the altar/asked people to pour water.
      • Fire consumed the sacrifices/dust around.
      • People threw themselves down and worshipped the lord as true God
      • Elijah killed the prophets of Baal. (8x 1=8mks)
