      • Geography applies chemistry to study the chemical composition of rocks/soil.
      • Geography use chemistry to explain chemical changes that take place in rocks/soils.
    2. The diagram below shows the interrelation between geography and other disciplines.
      geof2t3q1
      1. Identify the discipline marked X and Y. (2mks)
        • X – physiogeography
        • Y – economic geography
      2. Name the subject marked Z. (1mk)
        • Demography
  2.
    1. Give the forces responsible for the earth’s force. (2mks)
      • centripetal force
      • centrifugal force
    2. State three effects of revolution of the earth. (3mks)
      • Revolution causes the four seasons
      • Revolution causes changes in the position of the midday sun at different time of the year.
      • Revolution causes lunar eclipse
      • Revolution cause varying length of day and night.
  3.
    1. What is a rock? (2mks)
      • Rocks are naturally occurring aggregates of minerals particles forming part of the solid crust of the earth.
      1. Name three examples of intrusive igneous rocks. (3mks)
        • Granite
        • Peridotite
        • Grabbro
        • Syenite
      2. Describe three ways in which sedimentary rocks are formed. (6mks)
        • Mechanically formed where the rocks fragment are transported by wind, water or ice and they are deposited in layers and over along period of time the sediments are compacted into hard rocks.
        • Organically formed rocks where the remains of plants and animals are deposited in layer such that over a long period of time.
        • Chemically formed sedimentary rocks where the dissolved minerals are transported into water bodies, the dissolved sediments will precipitate/evaporate are then compacted to form a hard rock.
  4.
    1. With the aid of a diagram outline the formation of rift valley by tension theory. (5mks)
      • Layers or rocks are subjected to tensional forces.
      • Two normal fault develop.
      • Middle block subsides between two side block
      • Middle part forms depression called rift valley enclosed by escarpment
        geof2t3q4ANS
    2. Students are planning to carry out field study of an area affected by faulting.
      • State the four importance of having a pre-visit of the area. (4mks)

        •  Mid atlantics ocean/belt
  5.
    1. What is secondary vegetation? (2mks)
      • This is semi-natural or derived vegetation which is a plant cover growing naturally in a place but has been interfered with people and is the process of recovering from interference.
    2. Explain how the following factors influence the distribution of vegetation.
      1. Aspect (2mks)
        • There are a wide range of plants on the slopes focusing the sun and in the direction of rain.
        • Grass bands are dominant on the leeward side which is drier.
      2. Precipitation (2mks)
        • High rainfall area has a large number of plants such as forest which are broad leaved to increase the rate of transpiration.
        • Areas with little rainfall have scarcity vegetation of scrubs and desort type.

        • Forest
        • Savanna
        • Semi-desert and desert
        • Health and moorland
        • Swamp vegetation

        • In drier areas grass is shorter.
        • Trees are umbrella shaped.
        • Acacia are dominant trees.
        • Trees shed leaves during the dry season.
        • The grass sprout and seeds germinate in wet seasons.
    4. Some tree species have long tap roots which reach ground water.State four significance of vegetation to human activities. (4mks)
