   • If the stain is alkali an acid will remove it
   • A water based stain can be removed with water.
   • Alcohol will remove alcohol based stain
   • Grease stains can be removed using detergents or solvents
8. Differentiate between sponging and spotting. (2mks)
   • Sponging-; is treatment given to woolen garments and clothes made of heavy dark coloured fabrics that are soiled on the surface only.
   • Spotting-; treatment given to dark-coloured garments which happen to accidentally get soiled on small areas and need to be cleaned immediately.
9. Describe how to launder a chewing gum stain on polyester fabric. (6mks)
   • Collect all the equipments required.
   • Put ice cube on the affected areas.
   • Scrap off the gum.
   • The remaining particles use a piece of cloth in which paraffin has been added.
   • Soak in cold water to loosen dirt.
   • Wring the soaking water.
   • Wash with warm soapy water using kneading and squeezing method.
   • Rinse in warm water to remove dirt and soap traces.
   • Final rinse in cold water to freshen.
   • Add fabric conditioner on the last rinse to prevent generation or build-up of static electricity.
   • Drip dry under the shade.
   • Use warm iron to remove creases.
   • Air to dry completely.
   • Fold and store appropriately.
