   2. ’Not all aspects of culture and traditions are bad.’ Drawing your illustrations from the novel Blossoms of the Savannah, validate the above assertion.(20mks)

BLOSSOMS OF THE SAVANNAH

1. ’Women are their own enemies .’Write an essay exemplifying the truth of this statement using Blossoms of the Savannah .(20mks)
   • Mama Milanoi supports her husband in marrying their daughter Resian to Oloisudori who is of the same age to her husband Ole Kaelo against Resian’s wish.
   • Mama Milanoi and the three women lure Taiyo that her sister Resian is starving inEsoit but we see that she is forcefully circumcised.
   • All the enkamuratanis are women.
     Nasilian women are against Emakererei.
   • EnkoiboniOlarinkoi’s mum sarcastically tells Resian that after she heals she will call the enkamuratani and later she will get married to her son and flee to Tanzania .She tells her ‘What were you……and I heard that you are not yet a woman.
   • Yeiyo-botorr tells Mama Milanoi that Resian has Olkuenyi and she has to undergo the cut.This is after Resian complains that Olarinkoi is not supposed to lazily stay at their home and order them for food. (and any other relevant point)

   3. Songs and dances –During the home coming party ,the morans sing and jump.JosephParmuat leads the school children with songs and dances.During the Fare well party of Taiyo and Resian the girls of Empuka –e – maa school sing a song for them.
   4. They defined love to preserve chastity.
   5. Punishment for wrong doers e.g the two vagabond who tried to rape Resian and Taiyo are punished.The old man who had been attracted to a fourteen years old girl is beaten to death.
   6. Protection of girl child.E.g no man was supposed to get into in homestead if young girld are there.They used to inquire before getting in.
