- Amos was called to prophesy during the reign of Jeroboam II of Israel and Uzziah of Judah
- Amos was a herdsman of Tekoa, a village in the southern kingdom
- He was also a dresser of Sycamore Trees
- God called him while he was looking after his flock in the wilderness of Judah
- He was told to go and prophesy to the people of Israel
- He likened his call to the roar of a lion when everyone fears
- He was called through a vision
- God showed Him the evils of Israel
- He was sent to condemn the worship at Bethel
- His message angered Amaziah the priest
- Amos declared He was not a professional prophet but He has been sent by God.
