  1. State two grooming habits that can prevent skin diseases. (2mks)
    • Bathing daily
    • Eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins
    • Wearing clean clothes

  2. Distinguish between plaque and tartar (6mks)
    • Plaque – is a sticky substance which forms on teeth surfaces from combination of saliva and food residue. Its removed by brushing your teeth.
    • Tartar – a hard substance on teeth surfaces resulting from hardening of plaque it is removed only by the doctor.

  3. Give three symptoms of shock. (3mks)
    • Cold and sweaty skin.
    • Pale skin.
    • Weak but rapid pulse.
    • Irritability.
    • Profuse thirst and dizziness.
    • Shallow irregular breath.

  4. List four materials suitable for furnishing a living room floor. (2mks)
    • Terrazzo
    • Polish wood
    • Ceramic tiles
    • Cemented floor.

  5. Explain three methods commonly used for draining waste water from the house. (6mks).
    • Free method – throwing waste water somewhere in the compound especially to soak into the soil .
    • Open drainage – used to drain both waste and rain water, the gutters are used to direct water to the main gutter, which eventually carry water away from the building.
    • Concealed drainage – this involves directing waste water away from the house through waste pipes that lead to the main drain. It is suitable where there is piped water.

  6. Outline 3 reasons for soaking clothes before washing. (3mks)
    • Soaking helps to loosen the dirt for easier washing.
    • Soaking heps to soften fired dirt.
    • To dissolve water based stains.
    • To disinfect clothes used by sick person.
    • Soaking helps to soften storch.

  7. Mention 3 ways of enriching pouridge. (3mks)
    • Enrich with milk.
    • Adding of an egg.
    • Adding honey.
    • Adding lemon juice.
    • Adding sugar.

  8. Explain four needs of an expectant mother. (8 mks).
    1. Nutritional needs
      • Should take a balanced diet with extra amounts of iron, calcium, proteins, protective foods and energy giving food.
    2. Physical needs
      • Met through exercise, adequate rest, wearing low healed shoes and loosely fitting clothes.
      • Avoid standing for long periods.
      • Avoid lifting heavy loads.
    3. Emotional needs
      • Met through developing a positive attitude towards pregnancy.
      • Having supportive family members and friends.
      • Getting entertained to relax the mind.
    4. Social needs
      • Met through family playing a supportive role, like providing financial support and relieving her of some of her duties.

  9. Give 5 reasons why breastfeeding is important. (6mks).
    • Breastfeeding milk contains all the nutrients required by the baby in right proportions.
    • Helps the mothers uterus to return back to its normal position.
    • The first milk (colostrum) contains antibodies which build the immune system of the body.
    • Breast milk is always at the right temperature.
    • Breast milk is easy to digest.
    • Breast milk saves on time energy and money because no preparation is required.
    • The boned between mother and the baby is strengthened.
    • Breast milk is free from any contamination.
    • It may be used as a natural planning method as it may reduce ovulation.

  10. Mention the classification of flour mixture (2mks)
    • Batters – thin batters for pancakes, coating batter for fritters.
    • Doughs – dropping consistency for cakes, stiff doughs for bread, pastry and biscuits.

  11. Give the importance of each, state different ingredients used in cake making. (4mks).
    • Flour – Main ingredients which is used to provide glutten.
    • Sugar – used to sweeten and soften the cake.
    • Eggs – the trap air thus aerating the mixture.
    • Fruits – add flavour and nutrients when used in large quantities, they help in preserving and keep the cake moist.
    • Nuts – used to falvour and to add nutrients.
    • Fat – make a cake ‘short’ (shortening gluten strand) rich and keep it from drying during storage.
    • Margarine and butter – gives a pleasant flavour.
    • Flavourings – added to give the cake the desired flavour to a cake.

  12. Differentiate between creaming and rubbing. (2 mks)
    • During creaming margarine and sugar are creamed together while rubbing fat and floor are rubbed together.

  13. State 3 practices children should be trained on. (3 mks).
    • Washing hands before eating.
    • Taking a bath daily.
    • Be responsible for his/her things and for others.
    • Be polite.
    • Feed in an appropriate way.
    • Be considerate.
    • Share possessions with us.
    • Express on self confidently.
    • Have enough sleep.
    • Say ‘thank you’, ‘please’, ‘sorry’.

  14. Explain 3 points to consider when choosing play items (3mks)
    • But unpainted toys since some paints have lead which is poisonous.
    • Choose washable or easy to clean toys.
    • Toys should be too big for a child not to swallow.
    • Choose according to a child’s age to suit their interest and mental growth.
    • The toys should be kept clean since small children put them in their mouths.
    • Should be attractive in order to stimulate their sense of smell and interest.

  15. Mention 2 methods of sterilizing baby’s feeding equipment. (2mks)
    • Boiling them in a sauce pan.
    • Immersing the equipment in a sterilized solution.
    • Using a sterilized kit and placing it in a microwave oven.
