QUESTIONS

CHILDS BLOUSE
A pattern of a child’s blouse is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, instructions and layout carefully before you begin the test.

MATERIALS PROVIDED

  1. Blouse front
  2. blouse back
  3. Sleeve
  4. Sleeve band
  5. Front neck facing
  6. Back neck facing

 

  1. Plain light weight cotton fabric 60cm long by 91cm wide.
  2. Sewing thread to match.
  3. One large envelope.

THE TEST
Using the materials provided, cut out and make the RIGHT HALF of the child’s blouse to show the following processes.

  1. Making of the double pointed dirt.
  2. Making of the shoulder seam using a French seam
  3. Preparation of the sleeve to include
    1. French seam
    2. Hemming the band half way.
  4. Attaching of the sleeve. Do not neaten the seam.
  5. Joining the front and the back facing.
  6. Attaching the facing to finish the neckline and neatening the free edge.

At the end of the examination, finally sew onto your work, on a single fabric, a label bearing your name and admission number .Remove the needle, pins and loose thread from your work. Fold your work neatly and place it in the envelope provided. Do not put scraps of fabric in the envelope.

  7. Smooth cutting of the back facing (½) on a straight line (½)
