  1. Gather the necessary materials and equipment: lead(II) carbonate, sulfuric acid (H2SO4), distilled water, a beaker or glass container, a stirring rod, a filtration setup (funnel and filter paper), and a drying apparatus.

  2. Measure out the desired amount of lead(II) carbonate. The quantity depends on the desired amount of lead(II) sulfate to be obtained.

  3. In a beaker or glass container, add the lead(II) carbonate.

  4. Slowly add concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to the beaker while stirring continuously. The reaction between lead(II) carbonate and sulfuric acid produces lead(II) sulfate and carbon dioxide gas (CO2).
    PbCO3 + H2SO4 → PbSO4 + CO2 + H2O
Ensure that the reaction is carried out in a well-ventilated area or under a fume hood due to the release of toxic gases.

  5. Continue adding sulfuric acid until the reaction is complete, and no further effervescence (bubbling) is observed. The reaction may require gentle heating to facilitate the reaction. Be cautious while heating and maintain a controlled temperature.

  6. Allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature.

  7. Once the mixture has cooled, transfer it to a filtration setup (funnel and filter paper) to separate the solid lead(II) sulfate from the liquid.

  8. Collect the precipitated lead(II) sulfate on the filter paper. Rinse the solid with distilled water to remove any impurities.

  9. Set up a drying apparatus or use an oven to dry the lead(II) sulfate. Apply gentle heat to facilitate the drying process. Ensure that the temperature is not too high to avoid decomposition of the compound.

  10. After the lead(II) sulfate is completely dry, remove it from the drying apparatus and store it in a clean, dry, and labeled container for further use or analysis.
