The velocity(v)of a vehicle measured at intervals of time(t) were recorded as follows

 t(s) 0  2  4  6  8  10  12
 v(m/s)  0 20  40  40  30   8  0
  1. Represent this motion on a graph
  2. Calculate the acceleration
  3. Calculate the total distance travelled by the vehicle

  1. Motion represented on a graph
  2. Acc = 40 − 0
                4 −0
          =10m/s
  3. Area of A =½ × 4 × 40 = 80
               B = 40 × 2        = 80
               C = ½(40+30)2 =70
               D =½(30+8) 2   =38
               E =½ × 2× 8      = 8
                 Total                  276
  4. Av. velocity = 276/12 = 23m/s
