READING ALOUD

Every morning, Tom goes to his father’s workshop to help him. He is shown what to do by his father and he does it patiently. Tom has been helping in the workshop hoping to perfect his skills. He wants to set up his own workshop when he grows up and saves some money towards this, every month.

In the workshop, Tom’s father drills holes using the drill. He then uses the screw driver to drive the screws into the wood. Other times, he uses the claw hammer especially when driving in or removing nails

Sometimes, Tom cuts off pieces of wood using the saw as directed by his father. If the pieces of wood do not fit the required curve, Tom uses a pencil to mark the required measurement and cuts off the extra piece of wood.

ELEPHANTS

Elephants are the heavy weight champions of land mammals. They usually stand more than ten feet tall and can weigh up to 6000kg. This is taller than the height of a basketball goal post and heavier than five cars. Even if elephants were not so big, they would stand out because of their trunks. Their trunk is like a nose, hand and drinking straw all in one. Since this special nose is six feet long, elephants can eat both grass from the ground and leaves from trees. This is important because elephants need about 5kg of food each day. Their great size and strength protect them from all predators except one: humans. Humans have brought elephants to the edge of extinction by hunting them for their valuable ivory tusks.
