- A lawyer asked Jesus who a neighbor is.
- Jesus responded by telling him the parable of the Good Samaritan.
- He said a man was on his way to Jericho from Jerusalem when he fell among robbers.
- They stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
- By chance a priest was going down that road and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.
- A Levite came, saw him but also passed by on the other side.
- But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was.
- When he saw him, he had compassion and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine.
- He set him on his own beast and took him to an inn and took care of him.
- He paid the inn keeper and promised to come back and pay whatever more expenses used in caring for injured man.
- Jesus then asked who among the three proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among robbers.
