  1. Describe the call of the first disciples of Jesus according to Luke 5:1-11. (5mks) 32
    • One day Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret where the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God
    • He saw two boats close to the shore and got into one of them which was Simon’s
    • He asked Simon to put it out a little from the land
    • He taught the people from the boat
    • After he had finished speaking, he asked Simon to cast the nets in the sea for a catch
    • At first Simon was reluctant because he had been fishing the whole night and had caught nothing
    • Simon eventually agreed and cast the nets into the sea
    • They caught such a big number of fish that the nets began to tear
    • They asked for help from their friends
    • They were very moved by the incident that Simon fell on his knees before Jesus and urged to go away from him for he was a sinner
    • Jesus told Simon not to be afraid for from that time onwards he will be catching men
    • The other companions of Simon were john and James the sons of Zebedee
    • They all left everything and followed Jesus

    • Some disciples like peter were remorseful after they denied jesus
    • Some disciples were present when he was crucified on the cross
    • They helped him to spread the good news

    • Christians should endure suffering and tribulation since they prepare them for the kingdom of God
    • They should love their enemies as loving them would change them
    • They should overcome selfishness which makes them not to examine themselves before judging others
    • They should promote peace by forgiving those who wrong them
    • They should develop firm faith to help them overcome temptation
    • They should strive to hear the word of God and proclaim it
    • They should show in their actions by performing the works of charity such as helping the needy
    • They should not revenge or fight back
    • They should be generous by shearing what they have with others

    • Jesus entered a Gerase
    • He was met by a man who was possessed by demons
    • He wore no cloths and lived among the tombs
    • Man cried and fell down and told Jesus not to torment him
    • Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit not to torment him
    • Jesus asked the man his name
    • The man replied that his name was legion meaning many
    • That demons begged Jesus not to let them go into the abyss but into the swine that were grazing nearby
    • Jesus commanded the demons to go into the swine
    • The swine rushed and drowned into the nearby lake
    • The herdsmen fled and went to tell people in the city concerning what had happened
    • People come and found the man sitting at the feet of Jesus healed dressed and in his right mind
    • The people of Gerase reacted negatively to the good acts of healing
    • They were afraid of Jesus and asked him to depart from them
    • The healed man asked Jesus whether he could accompany him
    • Jesus told him to go and tell what had done for him
    • The man went through the town proclaiming the good news about Jesus
  8. Give the account of transfiguration as recorded in Luke 9:28-36. (5mks)
    • Jesus took peter, john and James on the mountain to pray
    • While praying his face changed appearance and his cloths become dazzling white
    • Two men suddenly appeared talking to him that is Moses and Elijah
    • They talked about his departure that he was to accomplish at Jerusalem
    • The disciples woke up and saw what was happening.
    • As men were parting from him , peter suggested to jesus that they make three booths one for Jesus ,Moses and Elijah.
    • A cloud appeared and overshadowed them.
    • They became afraid.
    • A voice from crowd was heard saying “this is my son, my chosen one, listen to him”.
    • When voice stopped Jesus was found alone.
    • The disciples kept silent and told no one about the happenings.
  9. Give reasons why Jesus refer to the Pharisees as hypocrites? (5mks) 19
    • The Pharisees considered themselves to be self-righteous
    • They despised others and looked down upon them
    • They lacked humility and exalted themselves
    • They knew the commandment but did not apply them
    • They followed the rules made by traditional elders but opposed god’s rule
    • They emphasized outward cleanliness as opposed to purity of the heart
    • The Pharisees altered the law of Moses to suit their selfish motives
    • They mislead people and had bad influence on them

    • They pray to thank God for his blessings
