- Describe the call of the first disciples of Jesus according to Luke 5:1-11. (5mks) 32
- One day Jesus was standing by the lake of Gennesaret where the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God
- He saw two boats close to the shore and got into one of them which was Simon’s
- He asked Simon to put it out a little from the land
- He taught the people from the boat
- After he had finished speaking, he asked Simon to cast the nets in the sea for a catch
- At first Simon was reluctant because he had been fishing the whole night and had caught nothing
- Simon eventually agreed and cast the nets into the sea
- They caught such a big number of fish that the nets began to tear
- They asked for help from their friends
- They were very moved by the incident that Simon fell on his knees before Jesus and urged to go away from him for he was a sinner
- Jesus told Simon not to be afraid for from that time onwards he will be catching men
- The other companions of Simon were john and James the sons of Zebedee
- They all left everything and followed Jesus

- He was met by a man who was possessed by demons
- He wore no cloths and lived among the tombs
- Man cried and fell down and told Jesus not to torment him
- Jesus had commanded the unclean spirit not to torment him
- Jesus asked the man his name
- The man replied that his name was legion meaning many
- That demons begged Jesus not to let them go into the abyss but into the swine that were grazing nearby

- The swine rushed and drowned into the nearby lake
- The herdsmen fled and went to tell people in the city concerning what had happened
- People come and found the man sitting at the feet of Jesus healed dressed and in his right mind

- A cloud appeared and overshadowed them.
- They became afraid.
- A voice from crowd was heard saying “this is my son, my chosen one, listen to him”.
- When voice stopped Jesus was found alone.
- The disciples kept silent and told no one about the happenings.
