Read the passage below and answer questions 26 - 38

Getting a good rest results into better health. Sleep and heath are closely connected. Cells come to life during the sleep cycle and if the body is not fully relaxed, these cells will not be efficiently replaced. This causes a person to feel tired and during the day they will feel as though they never had enough sleep. Therefore, a good bed is the gateway to good sleep. A good bed is one that offers the correct support, comfort and healthy space to sleep in. It should be fitted with a good mattress that is neither hard nor too soft and easily yields to the natural contours of the body. A good mattress enables one to have good sleep which is equally important for improved health. Timely replacement of mattress leads to positive results on sleep and overall quality of life.

It is also necessary that a mattress is changed every five years even if it is still good. This is because it loses its quality with time and also the composition collects much dust and dirt in course of time which is bad for health. A good night's sleep is priceless. However, the way people align themselves in bed makes the difference in the quality of sleep that they get. Experts say that the best way to sleep is on the back without a pillow. This allows the spine to rest with its natural curves in place. Side sleeping is not the best as it causes numb fingers due to strain on the nerves through the shoulder. Stomach sleeping is the worst position of all. It affects the lower back, neck and the lungs. It keeps the head turned to one side all night, which affects the alignment of the spine in the neck. A lot of things are therefore to be considered if one has to achieve quality sleep

Udueze went into his inner compound and soon returned with his goat skin bag and a sheltered machete. "I shall take you to the man who will receive your message," he said. He led the way and the three emissaries followed silently. He took them to the house of Otikpo, who was preparing seed yams for the market. He rose to greet his visitors whom he shook hands with, then went into an inner room and returned with a rolled mat. He spread it on the mud bed for his visitors. He then went again and brought a Kola nut in a wooden bowl. Akukalia thanked him but said that they could neither eat nor drink until their mission was over.

"Can this mission you speak of be heard by me and Udueze, or does it require the elders of Okperi?" Otikpo asked. "It requires, "said Akukalia. "Then you came a bad time. Everybody in Igboland knows that Okperi people do not have business on their market day. You should have come yesterday or the day before or tomorrow." Otikpo went outside and raising his voice, he called a neighbour, Ebo, and came in again. Ebo came in and saluted generally. He began to shake hands with the visitors, but when Akukalia's turn came, he refused to take Ebo's hand.

"Sit down," said Otikpo. "Akukalia has a message for Okperi which forbids him to eat Kolanut or shake hands. He wants to see the elders and I have told him it is not possible today. I have not yet heard of a message that cannot wait. Or have you brought us news that 'chuku', the high god, is about to remove the foot that holds the world? Do you people think that a market like the one we have today will break up because three men have come to Okperi?" Otikpo went on. Ebo and Otikpo burst into laughter. The three men from Umuaro exchanged glances. Akukalia's face began to look dangerous. Udueze sat as he had done since they first came in, his chin in his left hand.

"Are you telling us that you people regard us as market women? I've borne your insults patiently. Let me remind you that my name is Okeke Akukalia of Umuaro." "Oooh, of Umuara," said Ebo, still smarting from the rebuffed handshake. "lam happy you have said Umuaro. The name of this town is Okperi!" "Go back to your house!" shouted Akukalia. "Or I will make you curse the day you were born!" "If you want to shout like a castrated bull, you must wait until you return to Umuaro. I have told you this place is called Okperi," replied Ebo sarcastically. Perhaps it was deliberated, perhaps accidental. But Ebo had just said the one thing that nobody should have told Akukalia who was impotent and whose wives were secretly given to other men to bear his children.
