    • A pleat has three layers while a tuck has only two layers

  22. Your sister is celebrating her 21st birthday and has asked you to assist her in the preparations.
    1. Procedure to follow when laundering and treating the white linen table cloth with a fresh stain to be used when setting the table. (12 marks)
      • Collect all equipment and materials (½)
      • Shake(½) the table cloth to remove loose dirt
      • Cover the stain with borax (½)and pour boiling(½) water through
      • Rinse the area to remove the stain remover(½)
      • Soak (½)the table cloth in plain cold (½)water
      • Remove from soaking water and wash in hot (½) soapy(½) water using friction(½) method
      • Rinse severally in clean hot(½) water to remove all soap and dirt
      • Prepare hot water starch by mixing 1 table spoon starch (½) with 2 table spoon cold (½) water to make a paste. Add ½ litre boiling (½) water while stirring continuously. Dilute with 2 litres (½) of water to make a strength of 1:4 (½). Knead and squeeze the table cloth in the diluted starch solution(½)
      • Put the table cloth to dry out on the line in the sun (½)secured with pegs (½)
      • Remove while slightly damp (½) and iron using a hot (½) iron. Iron starting with hems on the wrong side (½) then iron the whole table cloth
      • Put in ventilated place to air (½)
      • Fold (½) using the four screen fold(½) and store ready for use
      • Clear the working area (½)
        (½ mark x 24 = 12 marks)
    2. Outline the procedure you will follow in cleaning the wooden floor in the living room in readiness for the party. (8 marks)
      • Collect all equipment and materials (½)
      • Move all light furniture to the centre of the room (½)
      • Sweep (½) from the furthest corner toward the door, collect the rubbish (½) and dispose (½) it off correctly
      • Wipe the floor (½) with a damp cloth (½) to remove any dirt, start from the furthest corner and move towards the door (½). Clean portion by portion overlapping parts
      • Leave the floor to dry completely (½)
      • Polish (½) the floor using circular motion (½), from the furthest corner, portion by portion and overlapping parts (½)
      • Leave the polish to dry (½)
      • Buff (½) with a soft dry cloth (½)
      • Rearrange the room (½)
      • Clear up (½)
        (½ mark x 16 = 8 marks)

      1. Environmental challenges paused by COVID 19. (4 marks)
        • Used face masks that are carelessly disposed may spread the virus
        • Poorly disposed masks may cause heaps of waste as they do not decompose easily
        • Face masks may clog open drains causing them to block
        • Used face masks may be blown by wind to water bodies and cover the surface cutting off oxygen for water creatures
        • Fish and other water creatures may swallow the masks and this may lead to their death
          (1 mark for each correct response, 1 x 4 = 4marks)
      2. Advantages of budgeting for your pocket money. (3 marks)
        • Better use of money. When one budgets they are able to make better use of the money that they have
        • Money will last through the term
        • The money can be used to buy some legal items not catered for by parents for example a book of interest
        • One can save some of the money for later use
        • In case of an emergency, one will have money to use
          (1 mark for each correct response, 1 x 3 = 3 marks)
    2. Factors to consider when setting a table for invited guests. (6 marks)
      • Number of guests. This will ensure that there are enough places set for diners
      • Type of meal to be served. This makes it easier to set the correct cutlery and crockery
      • Type of meal service to use. Allows one to know how to arrange the cutlery and crockery.
      • Special needs of diners. It is important to know if there is a diner who has a physical challenge or is left handed to set their cover for their comfort
      • Age of diners. Children and the elderly may need special consideration when setting their place at table
        (1 mark for statement, 1 mark for explanation, 2 x 3 = 6 marks)

        • In kwashiorkor the child has oedema thus looks puffy while in marasmus the child loses weight and is emaciated
        • Kwashiorkor only occurs in children while marasmus can occur at any age
        • The hair for a child with kwashiorkor looks silky and brown while hair does not change in a child with marasmus
        • Eyes look puffy or swollen for a child with kwashiorkor while a the eyes of a child with marasmus are sunken
        • A child with kwashiorkor is miserable and disinterested in what is going on around while a child with marasmus is alert and interested in all that is going on around
        • A child with kwashiorkor has very poor appetite while one with marasmus is ravenous
        • A child with kwashiorkor puts on weight due to retained fluids while the one with marasmus loses a lot of weight leading to wrinkled skin

        • Acts as a barrier that prevents harmful products from reaching the foetus while allowing useful products to pass through
        • Produces hormones that help in the growth and development of the baby

      3. Amniotic fluid.
        • Allows the foetus to move around in the uterus thus helping in exercising the muscles
