    • Saves the mother time and energy required for sterilizing feeding equipment and preparation of baby’s food.
    • Helps the mothers uterus to return to its normal size and position
    • It is a natural way of family planning to some mothers.

    • To allow putting on and off garmets.
    • For decoration.

    • Care given to the mother and her baby after delivery.

    • Can lead to accidents.

    • Identify the nature of stains and choose an appropriate stain remover.

    • To minimize accidents.
    • To avoid shadows on the working area,which will reduce fatique during work.

      • Soak in cold salty water to dissolve mucus.(1mk)
      • Remove from soaking water and rinse off salt.(1mk)
      • Wash in hot soapy water using friction method .(1mk)
      • Rinse thoroughly in hot water to remove all traces of soap and dirt.(1mk)
      • Finally rinse in cold water to freshen fibres.(1mk)and dry in the sun secured on a clothes line with pegs.(1mk)
      • Iron using a hot iron on both sides.(1mk)
      • Air (½ mk)
      • Store appropriately.(½mk)

    2. Explain how to improve a broom to be used to sweep an earthen floor of the kitchen. (4mks)
      • Cut long green grass or reeds.
      • Tie together a bunch of the grass or reeds securing them firmly with a string.
      • Fold or trim the upper end and tie it folded to produce a firm and neat edge.
      • Trim the lower end evenly.(4mks)

    3. Describe how to clean a stained melamine tea cup. (6mks)
      • Soak in vinegar solution for a while to remove the stains.
      • Clean with warm soapy water using cloth or sisal fibre/sponge.
      • Rinse in warm water to remove dirty soapy water.
      • Rinse finally in warm water.
      • Dry with a non fluffy cloth or drain on a rack
      • Buff to shine where necessary.

    3. Give and explain five causes of malnutrirtion . (10mks)
      • Poverty-poor people may not be able to buy enough food which can meet their body’s nutrient requirements.
      • Ignorance-people may lack knowledge on the importance of a balanced diet.
      • Insecurity-in areas where there are civil wars, tribal clashes and border disputes people are not able to concentrate on production. They may also lack access to food stuffs and medical services leading or resulting to malnutrition.
      • Cultural practices-some cultural practices may prohibit some people from taking certain types of food for example some cultures prohibit expectant women from talking certain foods which may lead to malnutrition.
      • Unfavourable climatic conditions leads to malnutrition e.g in the arid and semi arid areas crops and animals may not survive in such areas leading to lack of various types of food.
      • Diseases such as malaria and worm infestation lead to lack of nutrients in the body.
      • Inability of the body to utilize certain nutrients some bodies are not able to utilize certain nutrients which leads to wastage of such nutrients.

        • An emotional disorder usually affecting young women in which there is abdominal fear of getting fat, causing the person to stop eating.

      2. State five signs and symptoms of this disorder. (5mks)
        • Thin body.
        • Sudden loss of weight.
        • General body weakness.
        • Depression.
        • The desire to avoid food.(5mks)

    4. Mention six foods that can be included in the diet to prevent occurrence of rickets. (3mks)

      • For easy maintenance-loose covers and bed covers are easier and cheaper to launder than dry cleaning upholstery or blankets.
      • For privacy curtains screen the windows during the night an d daytime hence providing privacy
      • Filtering excessive light entering into a room.
      • Warmth and reduction of noise-carpets reduce noise and add warmth to a room.
      • Improving the appearance of unattractive furniture loose covers can be used to cover ugly upholstery and hence the appearance of a room.
      • For decoration –if colours are well chosen to blend with the colour scheme of a room the appearance of the room will be greatly enhanced.
