      • Man is made in the image and likeness of God.
      • God breathed in him the breath of life.
      • God gave man control of the earth.
      • Man has a will to choose between good and evil.
      • Man was given reasoning power than other animals.
      • Man can share with God in fellowship.
      • Man's partner was created directly from his ribs.
    3. Give seven negative effects of the bible versions used in Kenya today. (7 marks)
      • Some versions are difficult to understand such as those that use words like 'thou', 'ye' and 'hath'.
      • It has led to the existence of too many
      • Bible versions thus confusing the Christians.
      • Some versions are too simplified thus distorting the intended message.
      • Some Bible versions have omitted original phrases such as 'vir gin' to mean young woman hence distorting the value of virginity.
      • The many versions have led to misinterpretation of some sections of the bible leading to here says.
      • The many versions have led to conflict among Christians due to misinterpretation of scriptures.
      • They have led to the upcoming of many Christian denominations.(1 x 7 marks)

    1. Describe the background to the call of Abraham(7 marks)
      • He was an Amorite form the Semitic tribe that lived in the fertile crescent of Middle East.
      • He lived with his father Terah at a place called Ur.
      • He had two brothers, Haran and Nahor and a nephew called Lot.
      • He lived among people who practiced polytheism (worship of many gods/idols)
      • At the time of his call, he was known as Abraham and his wife was called Sarai.
      • God changed their names to Abraham and Sarah during the making of the covenant.
    2. Identify seven ways Abraham demonstrated his faith to God (7 marks)
      • He obeyed God's call and left his homeland Haran to go to unknown land.
      • He left familiar worship to the moon god to follow an unknown God.
      • He agreed to enter into a covenant with God by offering the best of his animals as sacrifice.
      • He obeyed God's command to have himself and every male member of his household circumcised.
      • Through faith, Abraham agreed to change his name form Abram to Abraham and his wife's name form Sarai to Sarah.
      • He was willing to offer his only son, Isaac as burnt sacrifice to God.
    3. Explain six challenges that Christians face while practicing their faith in Kenya today.(6 marks)
      • The emergence of splinter groups within the church.
      • The emergence of cults which practice ungodly activities.
      • The emphasis of materialism by the church. lack of role models among the leaders.
      • Open conflict among/between the leaders and the church members/authoritarians.
      • Confusion among Christians due to different interpretation of the Bible.
      • Church member leaders not having time for all members/discrimination.
      • Negative effects of mass media/modem technology.
      • Misuse of resources by the leaders/lack of resources/infrastructure/transport.
      • Rise of state-church conflicts.

    1. State seven functions of the temple.(7 marks)
      • It was a place of worship. It was a residential place for priests.
      • It was used for training religious leaders in the Mosaic Law.
      • It was a place where rites of purification were carried out.
      • It was a place where all first born male children were dedicated to God.
      • It was used as a commercial Centre.
      • It was the seat of the Jewish Sanhedrin.
      • It was a symbol of unity and security for the Israelites.
      • It was a place where the Ark of the Covenant was kept.
      • It was a symbol of God's presence among the Israelites.(1x7 = 7 marks)
    2. Give seven forms of punishment prophesied by Elijah to King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.(7 marks)
      • Death of Ahab would be in the same place/Valley of Jezereel like Naboth.
      • Evil would be upon Ahab. God would take away the prosperity of Ahab.
      • Dogs would drink the blood of Ahab. All the male children free/slaves would be cut off.
      • The lineage of Ahab would be wiped out.
      • The dogs would eat anybody who belongs to the family of Ahab who died in the city.
      • The birds of the air would eat all who die in the field.
      • (The dogs would eat the body of Jezebel)(1x7= 7 marks)
    3. Outline six reasons why a church leader may be rejected in society. (6 marks)
      • Some may be leading immoral lives.
      • When leaders fail to honor their pledges/promises fail to perform their duties effectively.
      • Leaders who are autocratic/dictatorial.
      • Leaders who incite one group against others/fail to promote peace and harmony.
      • Lack of leadership skills/education and proper training for the leaders.
      • Misappropriation of public funds/corrupt leaders and mismanagement of finances/facilities.
      • When one fails to address the problems of her/his subjects.
      • When he/she practices discrimination/tribalism/nepotism etc.(1x6 = 6 marks)

    1. Describe how prophetic messages were written.(6 marks)
      • The prophets were instructed by God to write the messages on scrolls e.g. Isaiah/Jeremiah/Habakkuk
      • Some prophets dictated the messages to a scribe or a secretary e.g. Jeremiah has a personal secretary baled Baruch.
      • The messages on scrolls were later translated by intelligent and inspired writers.
      • The disciples of the prophets preserved their masters's teaching as oral traditions and passed it over to subsequent generations
      • The prophetic messages were collected overtime and then organized into subjects by the inspired writers of scribes who wrote them down.
      • The inspired writers organized the messages which were in continuous prose into chapters and verses for easy reading and understanding.(1x6 = 6 marks)
    2. State six forms of punishment God would give Israel according to Prophet Amos.(6 marks)
      • War/invasion - they would die by the sword.
      • Exile-would be taken into exile in Assyria.
      • Fire-would burn their cities.
      • Drought and famine would strike their land.
      • Locusts would invade the land.
      • God would destroy Altars at Bethel and Dan.
      • Earthquakes Epidemics Eclipse
      • The rich oppressed the poor would lose wealth.
      • Amaziah priest and the king would die by the sword.(1x6 = 6 marks)
    3. Identify seven ways which show that prophecy is practiced in the church today.
      • Preaching the good news/spreading the gospel
      • Condemning social injustices.
      • Educating people on laws of God/Bible study.
      • Foretelling God's plan for his people/future/warning people.
      • Offering guidance and counseling to people.
      • Calling people to repentance and baptism.
      • Leading exemplary lives/good role model.
      • Helping the poor/needy. Winning new converts.

    1. Give five reasons why Nehemiah carried out religious reforms in Judah. (5 marks)
      • To ensure that those who were bom Jews were loyal to the law and faithfully supported the temple.
      • To protect the people of God' who had renewed the mosaic covenant.
      • To ensure the survival of the people of God as a pure nation free from foreign blood.
      • So as to build a pure-post exilic community not contaminated by foreign influences.(5x1 = 5 marks)
    2. State the promises that the Jews made before Ezra and Nehemiah during the renewal of the covenant.(8 marks)
      • Not to marry with foreigners Not to carry out business during Sabbath contribute towards maintenance of the temple preserve integrity of the community.

    1. Explain why polygamy was a common practice in Traditional African Community.(7 marks)
      • For prestige, to raise the man's social status.
      • In case of barrenness of the first wife.
      • To ensure a large work force of wives and children
      • To ensure that all women are married.
      • To ensure there is always someone around to help in times of need e.g. when one wife gives birth there are other wives to nurse her and care for her other children.
      • Polygamy helps to prevent or reduce unfaithfulness especially on the art of the man.
      • Polygamy contributes to effective family planning.
      • Seen as wealthy - could keep/afford to maintain
    2. Give the significance of rituals performed after the death of a person in Traditional African Communities.(7 marks)
      • Wailing/crying is a sign of sorrow/announcing death.
      • making sacrifices to appease the ancestors/deceased/spirits.
      • Prayers are made to ask the ancestors to accept the dead in the world of spirits.
      • shaving the members of the bereaved family signify new life in the community.
      • Singing and dancing depict anger towards death/in praise of the dead.
      • washing/oiling of the body before burial shows respect to the dead.
      • burying of the dead in the ancestral land shows that one is still a member of the community.
      • burying the dead with personal belongings symbolized life after death.
      • driving of cattle/livestock shows chasing away of evil spirits which caused death.
      • drinking is meant to bid farewell to the dead.
      • Breaking of pots/destruction of property symbolizes the disorder brought by death.
      • sharing of deceased's property among relatives is a sign of solidarity.
      • Lighting of fire chasing away evil spirits Warning spirits of the deceased.
      • pouring of libation shows continuity of life.

    3. Identify six changes that have taken place in the African understanding of dressing.(6 marks)
      • Most Africans have borrowed the western European dressing styles/fashion.
      • There are no specific clothes for men or women.
      • There is change in the way of dressing.
      • Traditional attires are mostly sold to foreigners and tourists as a way of earning income.
      • There is a lot of freedom on how one wishes to dress hence emergence of slogans like 'my dress my choice'.
      • There is much borrowing of attire from one community to another.
      • Dressing depends on affordability hence a lot of competition especially women.(1x6 = 6 marks)
