QUESTION

A pattern of a girl dress is provided. You are advised to study the sketches, instructions and the layout carefully before you begin the test.

  1. MATERIALS PROVIDED
    1. Bodice front
    2. Bodice back
    3.  Skirt front
    4.  Skirt back
    5.  Sleeve
    6. collar
    7. cut out a crossway strip measuring 18cm long 4cm wide
  2. Plain lightweight cotton fabric 70cm long and 90 cm wide.
  3. Cotton sewing thread to match the fabric
  4. One large envelope.
    THE TEST
    Using the materials provided, lay, cut out and make the left half of a girl’s dress to show the following processes:
    1. Cutting out (16mks)
    2. Making of the dart at the front bodice (6mks)
    3. Making of a shoulder seam using a double stitched seam. (71/2mks)
    4. Making the side seam on bodice and skirt using an open seam. (13 mks)
    5. Attaching of the bodice pieces to the skirt pieces using overlaid seam and neatening ¼ of the seam using overcasting stitches (91/2mks)
    6. Preparation of the collar and attaching using a crossway strip. (16mks)
    7.  Preparation and attachment of the sleeve; use French seam for the underarm seam. Do not
      TRIM OR NEATEN THE SEAM ALLOWANCE (10 ½ mks )
    8. Making of the worked loop on the back edge for 1cm wide button. (5 mks) i) Overall presentation (61/2mks)
      OMIT
      The management of this lower hem to the skirt and sleeves.
      At the end of the examination, firmly sew onto your work, on a single fabric a label bearing your name and index number. Remove the needle, pins and loose threads from your work.
      Fold your work neatly and place it in the envelope provided. Do not put scarps of fabric in the envelope. Do not seal the envelope.
