    • It is faster to work with than a command line interface as it only relies on clicking the icons by use of a pointing device
  13. Distinguish between disk compressing and disk defragmenting (2 marks)
    • Compressing is creating more space on a disk by squeezing disk contents (files) into a smaller storage location on the disk.
    • Defragmenting is rearranging scattered related files/ folders closer to each other on the surface of a storage unit.
  14. Describe TWO roles of each of the following;
    1. Database Administrator (2 marks)
      1. Design and develop database applications for the organization
      2. Set up security measures needed to control access to data and information.
      3. Keeping the database up-to-date by adding new records or modifying and deleting unwanted records.
    2. System analyst (2marks)
      • Renew current manual or redundant information system and make recommendations on how to replace it with a more efficient one.
      • Work with programmers to construct and test the system.
      • Co-coordinating training for users of the new system.

    1. Data Encryption
      • This is where data that is on transit is mixed up in a form that only the sender and receiver can be able to understand.
    2. Sabotage
      • Illegal destruction of data and information with the aim of crippling service delivery or causing great loss to an organization
    3. Firewall
      • A device or software system that filters the data and information exchanged between different networks by enforcing the lost networks access control policy.

      • Data verification is the process of checking that data is correctly transcribed while data validation is the process of checking that data entered at input satisfies is correct

      • Syntax error :- grammar of programming language not followed
      • Logical error:- program runs but does the wrong thing e.g. multiplies to give wrong product
      • User unacceptability:- program runs but does not meet users requirements
      • Run time error:- abnormal unexpected stoppages at the time of running / during execution e.g. on encountering something like 75/0
    2. Explain TWO functions of networking software in a computer (2 marks)
      • Making sharing of resources possible.
      • Transmitting data around network.
      • Respond to requests from application programs running on the networks.
      • Enables nodes on the network to communicate with each other more efficiently.
      • Implementing network security features
    3. Give two advantages and two disadvantages of impact printers (4 marks)

      2. Real time processing (2 marks)
        • In this mode, data input is processed as it is received and the output made available immediately to influence an ongoing activity.
    2. Differentiate between phased and parallel implementation methods. (2marks)
      • In parallel conversion, both the old and the new system are operated until the project development team and end user management agree to switch completely over to the new system while in phased conversion only a few departments, branch offices, or plant locations at a time are converted.
    3. A student presented a budget in the form of a worksheet as follows

    1. Describe the mesh topology ( 2 marks)
      • This topology uses separate cables to connect each device to every other devices on the network providing a straight communication path.
