    2. Describe the major translations of the bible ((7mks)
      • The old testament was originally written in Hebrew
      • The New Testament was originally written in Greek
      • The Old testament was translated from Hebrew to Greek
      • The entire Bible was translated into Latin by Jerome
      • The Bible was directly translated from Hebrew and Greek into English by William Tyndale
      • The Bible was translated into national languages of European countries during the period of reformation/Germany
      • It was translated from English to Kiswahili by Dr Krapf
      • It has been translated into local languages by the Bible Society of Kenya /individuals
    3. What were the effects of Bible translations on African languages (7mks?)
      • Many people are able to read the word of God/ improved and literacy of the people
      • It led to development of African/ local languages
      • It made evangelization easier/ growth of church
      • It led to the development of African independent churches
      • Many Africans got converted into Christianity
      • Missionaries were able learn African languages thus making Christianity spread faster
      • Development of printing press/ church bookshops
      • It created job opportunities

    1. Describe how the Israelites crossed the red sea (6mks)
      • During the night of the Passover, Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and told them to leave, to go and worship their Lord.
      • All the Israelites, their flocks and herds were urged to leave in a hurry.
      • Pharaoh took his chariot army and followed the Israelites and found them camped by the Red Sea.
      • The Egyptian army followed Israelites and caught up with them by the Red Sea where they had camped. Moses asked the scared Israelites to move near the sea.
      • God told Moses to lift up his stick, and hold it over the sea.
      • The waters of the Red Sea divided and the Israelites crossed the sea on dry ground with walls of water on both sides.
      • The angel of God, and the pillar of cloud (who had been in front of the army of Israel) moved behind the Israelites and provided light to them as they cross.
      • The Egyptians army pursued Israelites. The pillar of cloud made it dark for Egyptians who could not see where they were going.
      • Just before daylight, the Lord looked at the Egyptians from the pillar of cloud and fire and God threw the army of the Egyptians into confusion.
      • Moses was asked by the Lord to stretch out his hand. He did so and waters returned to its normal level drowning Egyptian army and their horses.
    2. State the condition for the renewal of the covenant at Mt. Sinai (7mks)
      • To obey God’s commandments
      • Not to make any treaty with those who lived in the land where they were going.
      • To break down their altar, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah (Idols). Not to worship any other god and not to make idols for worship.
      • To keep the feast of unleavened bread (Passover).
      • Not to marry people from other tribes.
      • To rest on the Sabbath day.
      • To sacrifice and offer their best produce and animals to God.
    3. Give the effects of idolatry in Israel (7mks)
      • Syncretism developed. This was a process of mixing beliefs and practices from different religions. Israelites worshipped Yahweh and the gods of Canaan.
      • Former places of worship for the Canaanite gods were used as places of worship for Yahweh
      • The Canaanite agricultural calendar was adopted by Israelites
      • Names of the Canaanite gods were used for Yahweh. For example, EL was referred to as Yahweh
      • Parents began naming their children after Baal.
      • Feasts and celebrations were changed to correspond with those of Canaanites when they celebrated their feasts.
      • King Ahab declared worship of Baal as the state religion
      • Queen Jezebel ordered the destruction of the altars of Yahweh

    1. Highlight the Jewish expectation of the messiah in the Old Testament (6mks)
      • The messiah shall lead Israel into political and economic prosperity
      • Rule from the throne of David
      • Be born from a royal family
      • Conquer the enemies of Israel as a military ruler
      • Perform miracles and mighty deeds
      • No association with the poor sinners and the Gentiles
      • Uphold the Mosaic laws
    2. Describe the baptism of Jesus (7mks)
      • John the Baptist baptized all the people
      • Jesus was also baptized
      • Jesus was praying
      • The heavens opened
      • The Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus
      • A voice came from Heaven
      • Jesus was described as the beloved son of God with whom he was blessed thou art my beloved son with thee am well pleased
    3. What is the significance of the baptism of Jesus to Christians today (7mks)
      • Christians practice baptism. They follow example of Jesus baptism. There are many forms of baptism such as full immersion in water, sprinkling of water on the forehead, partial immersion (head only) and passing under a flag.
      • Christians teach importance of baptism. It qualifies a new convert to become a member of Christian fellowship.
      • Through baptism, Christians receive the power of the Holy Ghost.
      • Through baptism, Christians identify themselves with Jesus Christ and all that he stands for.
      • Baptism unites Christians in the body of Christ.
      • Baptism is a symbol of death and resurrection. In some denominations, the baptized are given new names of other Christians and Jews.
      • Baptism signifies the forgiveness of sins
      • Through baptism one is considered a child of God.

    1. Give the duties of a disciple as taught in St. Luke’s gospel (6mks)
      • To preach the good news of salvation to other people and be ready to suffer for the sake of Christ.
      • Obey God’s commandments and follow teachings of Jesus.
      • To help the needy spiritually and with material needs.
      • To teach others about the Kingdom of God.
      • To heal the sick.
      • To cast out demons.
      • Be prepared to suffer for the sake of the gospel.
    2. State the teaching of Jesus on Watchfulness and readiness (7mks)
      • Watchful and ready for the return of the Son of Man i.e. Jesus.
      • Faithful servants so that when Jesus returns, he will find them ready and acting responsibly
      • Watchful of possible divisions in families
      • Loyal to Christ
      • Ready for the coming of the Son of Man. He will come at unexpected time; like a thief who comes when the owner of the house is not aware.
      • Observing things of the kingdom of God, which were present in the person of Jesus.
      • Like good servants, and watch over the affairs of the master.
      • Be decision makers and follow the teachings of Jesus without being watched.
    3. Narrate the parable of the great feast (7mks)
      • Jesus was in the house of a leading Pharisee
      • One man sitting at the table with Jesus said that happy are those who will sit down at the feast in the Kingdom of God
      • Jesus told a parable of a man who invited friends to a feast
      • When it was ready he sent his servants to inform them that the feast was ready and that they could come
      • All the invited guests sent apologies and didn’t come
      • The owner of the feast was furious because of this let down
      • He told his servants to go to the streets and valleys of the town and bring the poor to come to the feast
      • The servant did as commanded but the hall was not yet full
      • He sent them to the country roads and lanes invite more people to the feast
      • The master said none of those invited earlier would be welcome to the feast

      • They are also referred to as healers, herbalists or traditional doctors.
      • They identified illness and their causes.
      • They identified appropriate treatment and prevention measures for the illness.
      • They averted the effects of a curse.
      • They offered sacrifices and prayers to God and the ancestors.
      • They prepared charms for protection against witchcraft and evil spirits.
      • They gave medicine to increase fertility in both people and animals.
      • They acted as counselors, guiding people on all issues of life.
    3. State moral values that were observed in the African traditional society (7mks)
      • Hospitality and Love for self and others.
      • Honesty. This is developing good habits like telling the truth, Loyalty, Respect, Co – operation with all.
      • Obedience to parents, elders, community leaders and elders.
      • Caring for others.
      • Developing social moral behaviours like Humility, Sharing, Responsibility, Chastity, Integrity, Tolerance, Perseverance, and Courtesy
      • Working Hard by doing chores.
      • Cooperation. Members cooperated and worked together with others.
